I have a tattoo on the back of my neck and it actually wasnt that painful. If you have gotten tattoos before then you have something to compare it to. If you really want it then go for it because I wouldnt even call it painful.

I have a tattoo on my neck, and it really wasn't all that bad. It is different for each person, though. Everyone has a different pain threshold. Have you had tattoo's before? I have quite a few, and honestly, I'd have to say that most of my tattoos felt the same. I really can't tell which one hurt more or less. Some places will do what they call a 'dry run'. They will take the needle across your neck to let you know what it will feel like. However, with ink it may sting a little more (I don't think there is a huge or noticeable difference) and if you decide you don't want to get a tattoo in that spot or that it is too uncomfortable, they may charge you a fee for ruining a needle. Something to think about. But, from my experience, it wasn't bad at all. (*Also consider the size. Mine was relatively small)

I have one that's on my neck, but closer to the back side of my neck and ear. I have a rose there and it looks pretty sexy! I had this done about three years ago, but I'm telling you it hurt really bad for me. Everybody's tolerance for pain is different so it may not feel the same way for you. It only took about 15 minutes for it to get done, but those 15 minutes seemed like an eternity because of the pain. If you don't mind going through pain then go ahead and get it, but if you can't take pain too well then I wouldn't get it. This part of the body will hurt when getting a tattoo.

The skin on the side of the neck is soft thus the pain would be more as compared to it you have the tattoo done on your arms.

Tats ARE ART, so don't listen to lifetime of pain. Art comes in many forms. TATS are just one form. Now on to your question. Even with me not having any on my neck, I don't see getting a tat on the neck as painful to the extent as some answer say. Getting one on the ankle I would think is more painful. The neck has more cusion so to speak. Yes I have about ten tats so I am familiar with the MINOR pain in getting tats. I haven't gotten one on my neck as I have not found one that would fit my image to put there.

Sounds like it will hurt a lot. I have a small ta too on my hip and getting it was painful. It felt like a sewing needle being dragged across my skin. If you have a high pain tolerance, you can handle it. Just imagine the pain of a needle being dragged along the side of your neck.

The pain of defacing your body lasts a lifetime. It's a pain that actually gets worse with time. If you're really into a lifetime of pain, have it done by a jailhouse artist.
