For the first sentence, you need to use some form of ご苦労様. (this is gokurousama).

Then, you need to specify each area (writing, learning words, sentences), for which you appreciate the 先生の (Sensei’ｓ) efforts.

If you truly learned from this teacher, you should be able to form these sentences. It might be more endearing to the teacher to have the students phrase the sentences themselves.
