It is my understanding that for a Catholic ceremony the couple is required to attend pre cana and other classes. I am trying to find out if they are also required for a Lutheran ceremony.

Every church is different...you should really find a church that you want to marry in and have a talk with the priest. Usually they will have a booklet of requirements and rules, like some churches won't let you use petals on the aisle runner.

It depends if you are marrying, just getting married at the church, you are marrying a member or if you will be converting later.

Typically, you and your fiance are required to attend counseling sessions with the minister performing the wedding. I think this is left up to the individual minister with some guide lines provided by the Church governing body. Some churches do not perform marriage ceremonies of non members. I don't know any that require you to take classes unless you are going to convert to Lutheran.

I would call the church and ask them if they perform marriages and what requirements there are.

Generally, you have to be a member in the church where you want to get married (at least 6-12 months). If you are not baptized you will probably be expected to do that too. Also expect to be required to attend premarital counseling (you AND your fiancee). Some chrches/pastors are more lenient some are stricter. Some may go so far as to require you NOT to be living together before the wedding. Good Luck
