My nieces Boarder Collie is expecting pups in February and we are hoping to have one of the puppies (dog preferably). I grew up with a Boarder Collie myself so am fairly confident about the training and time and energy required but don't know anything about the initial vacination and worming programme that a puppy should have and how long this will take or how much this will cost. Please help. (Based in Bristol, England)
Thanks.

They get 4 sets of distemper/parvo (DH2PP) every 3 to 4 weeks....some vets only give 3 and then the rabies vaccination with the last distemper. You can have the bordetella vaccine done for kennel cough, but I only suggest that if you're planning on boarding. The vaccine only covers some strands of the disease, so if some other strand gets in contact with your dog, he'll still get it. My vet only suggests it when you're boarding the dog at a kennel.

pups should be started on their first vax at 6-8 wks of age. then every 3-4 wks until they are 16 wks old. DHLPP/CV this is the distemper/parvo/flu/lepto/hepatitis/corona vac. also a good idea is the bordatella which is for prevention of kennel cough. then at 16 wks or older is the rabies. I'm in the US, so check with your local vets on the requirements for rabies and how long it is good for. take a stool sample to the vet so they can check for different parasites and give the appropiate medication for worms. start on a heartworm prevention program at 8wks. as far as cost goes, well time to call some vets and ask if they have puppy plans avail and what is included and what the fees are. here in the US, Calif it's an average of 160ish. good luck and hope this helps

the pups must be checked by a vet soon after birth where he will give the first shots and check for worms and other ailments the vet will give you the rundown on when to bring him in again usually 7 to 8 months if spaying /neutre get this done at 6 months we had ours done at this age. Yes they are delightful dogs so affectionate
