If you only saw the family doctor, I would like to suggest that you take your son to a urologist for a specialized second opinion. It is totally possible that nothing is wrong! Some toddlers and little boys have painful erections due to pressure on the prostate gland or even a full bladder. Of course, there are also medical reasons for a painful erection so it would be best to see a physician who specializes in the male urinary/reproductive systems. If you need a referral due to your insurance or HMO, I am sure your family doctor would provide it at your request.
