Hi there !!!! I know the feeling. I have been waking up every morning at 4 am and that is the end of it. In my case I know it is the situation I am going through.

Now as for you, many things cause insomnia. Problems, worries, stress, sadness, being excited, hormones, ect...

I have heard so many remedies, and I must confess I believe deep within that some do work better than others, but the most important ingredient is our train of thought, even if we do not believe in that. If we believe something will work, many times it will. If we kill the possibility even before we get started, then there you have it, you do not give it a chance.
Enough said, here are some remedies

Take a good head of lettuce, romaine, wash it really well. then take some distilled water and place the lettuce in the water , place in the refrigerator. Let it sit there for about a day , the water will change color, drink this water before going to bed

Try to create a routine before going to bed. Get comfy, some really nice jamies, a nice warm bath, some warm milk if you do not have chest congestion, or some herbal tea like chamomile. Get cozy and relax. When thoughts that could keep you up come to your head, just brush them away. Do not deny their existense, just do not allow them to botther you. aknowledge their existense, but get into the train of thought that it is night time and you need to rest, by worrying you are not going to solve anything, so you need your beauty sleep to continue on this wonderful journey we call life.

Wear comfortable clothes to go to bed.

Make your sleeping are appealing to the eye, Clean, fragrant. This has such an impact on how we feel.

Eat light at night, this can also disrupt your sleep.

Read a good book.

Listen to calming instrumental music, with sounds of nature if that floats your boat.

Close your eyes in bed , be aware of your body. Relax your feet, your legs, litle by little your whole body, visualize a light surrounding your body, feel its warmth. Allow it to wrap itself around you. Let it embrace your body whole. Give yourself mental commands that you will sleep, that you are falling asleep, if you do this right, it will work.

Wish you only the best. Remeber thoughts are things. What we believe to be true for us , that it is.

Love and light

You should try to wake up early in the morning and do a lot of work so that at night you would feel so tired that you would automatically fall asleep.

One thing that works well is listening to a subliminal tape and it can serve a dual purpose to improve some aspect of yourself. Occasional use of melatonin (available at a vitamin store) 1 mg tablet can help you sleep. Take it 20 min before ready to sleep. No grogginess in the morning. Try to get sunshine on your face (eyes) during the day also, it helps build up your natural metatonin.

Best way to get a good night's sleep is to have 1 or 2 calcium tablets just before with a glass of water. Have an omega 3 tablet as well and voila!! Works a treat for me........:)

Lay down, take deep breaths and relax and get comfortable. Remove anything that will keep you up. If your laptop reminds you of the work you have to do tomorrow get it out of the room, if the pile of letters on your desk reminds of the bills you have to pay get them out of sight etc.
Get off the computer, the light keeps you up, turn the lights down low. Do something you find relaxing or something repetetive. Read a book, knit, do an easy crossword puzzle. If you are going to read, have one book that you read in bed and nowhere else so your body knows when you start reading it's time to shut down, same goes for knitting etc.

Warm milk. Reading. Watching a little bit of TV. Doing something that requires a lot of mental power, like working on Adobe CS.
Or a sleeping aid.
