In that case, considering you'll likely be in free fall, you'll be floating in the elevator. And that should be the least of your worries as you'll be traveling upwards of 120 mph into an immovable object (i.e. the ground).

Fortunately, elevator safety mechanisms don't allow elevators to fall if the multiple cables break or the system looses power. They have multiple brakes that mechanically engage if the elevator reaches a certain speed. This is a mechanical, not electrical system and is required standard safety equipment in all elevators.

Well, the likely hood of that even happening is VERY minute. And even if it did, there is no safe way.. hanging from the ceiling or sitting down. You are dead either way. Just put your head as far between your legs as you can and kiss your *** g-bye.

it better to stand. coz u will look like an idiot if u were going to hang or sit inside the elevator when ur going down or going up.

You need to spread out your body as much as possible to minimize the impact. Lie flat on the floor, on your back, arms and legs spread wide.
