I might have got caught breaking the speed limit yesterday, and am now expecting a letter from DVLA. About how long do they usually take to reach you if i HAVE got caught speeding? and how many points are you allowed to have to still keep your licence?as i do not understand their system. Thank you

It is not the DVLA that sends you a fine but the police force of the area you were driving through. They have to send you the notice within six weeks of the offence, I believe.
You might have been lucky if there was no film or the film was finished in the camera that flashed you, so do not give up hope. If it was a speed trap in a van, then your chances are poor as it is the police's main income and they make a lot of money from catching people even just above the speed restriction in force.
If it is your first offence you should be OK to drive with only three points on your licence but it depends what speed you were doing and where. Good luck.

Would you mind changing your chosen name. I have had it longer than you and it might lead to confusion.Thank you.
Wise Owl the first.

PS.( Monday p.m.) "Thank you so much for changing your name. I actually think your new choice is much more original and intriguing. With regard to your previous pseudonym, they do say that great minds meet. Either that or you were taught to read in "Little Grey Rabbit" books as I was.

Was it a speed camera? about 7 days. Police radar usually the same.

Depending on speed average £80 fine and 3 points.

its normally about 7 days although I got caught a few years ago & it was about 3 weeks before I heard anything about it. You usually get £60 fine & 3pts on your license

They must send it within two weeks (longer under certain circumstances, such as hire cars).

When you reach 12 points, you're banned. Or, if you've had your license less than 2 years, then 6 points and you start again.
