It depends on individual. I know there are ladies who really quit their job just to take care of their kids. As for the real reason, I believe it is due to high living cost in S'pore that made most ladies to hang onto their job and spend little time with their kids.

Why are Singaporean MEN choosing career over raising their kids personally?
Is material security more important than emotional security ? What drives them to choose career over their children ?
Is it because they are MEN and therefore not qualified? Is it because they ARE men and therefore would be more qualified to providing for the family while their wife is more qualified to raise the kids and attend to housekeeping chores?
Is this not the 21st century? Why are Singaporian women getting the short end of the stick?

Asia has been changing due to western influance as well as a industrial boom one like the Us saw post WW2, which was the time in the US that many woman choose to work virus staying home. It is something new, for them not to be told their place is at home w/ the children.
