They don't. We could never decide on which church. They object to the government's equation of religion and church. If it was a particular church, say Lutheran of which I am one, then we would be faced with a theocracy. J. Falwell and P. Robertson give us ample reason to fear such.

We do NOT want to unify church and state. We want to be allowed to worship the way we choose without interference from the government. Right now the government is interfering big time, by not allowing us the rights originally conceived in the Declaration and Bill of Rights. The whole church and state thing was misinformation and it's stupidity continues despite the fact the document that started this was misquoted and misinterpreted.

Well, now, let me count the ways.
You either TOTALLY separate them, which I tend to favor.
Or you have the option that Hindus might take over and make us wear robes and make tatoos on our arms and fast
Or Islamics might take over and make us wear robes and head gear and force all single men to have beards and make use bown 5 times a day and fast for a month or face beheadings and change punishments to whipping and beatings
Or Christians might take over and make you read the Bible and learn about God and Jesus and that's about it.
Now, those are your choices.
Take a look at the world.
In ENGLAND right now Islamics want ISLAMIC COURTS for their areas.
You want ISLAMIC courts in America.
We already basically have Christian Courts.
You want it changed to Islamic rules with the rape victim can be punished for being in a position to be raped, as well as the rapist. That is a part of the law court.
You want to be cained like they do in a few countries. Remember that American kid who got cained.
Maybe a little justice from a different religion in America will make Atheists apperciate the mellowness of Christianity more!
Maybe if you get whipped in public for driving too fast you'll learn which the better religion is for justice.
Christians just preach at you and fine you.
Maybe make you do a little civic work.
You know in SOME religions you get your head lopped off for being a "non-believer."
Christians haven't done that in a long time. We modernized.
Some religions haven't and WON'T.
You choose, before the CHOICE is made for you Mr. 1% of America Atheist and Mr. 5% of the World Atheist.
Some religions have NO compassion for the minority.

I don't think it is Christians so much as their leaders that would want to do that. If you are a leader of a Christian Church that is also leading the state you kill two birds with one stone in the game of money, power and politics. You can do whatever you want and call it "God's will."

If they looked around, they would realize it's already unified. Our government is far more "Christian-friendly" than any other religion. Look at our education system! "Winter break" arranged around Christmas and not any of the other religions that have holidays around that time. "Spring break" is around Easter. Many of our basic laws come straight from the Ten Commandments. Our government was formed by Christians, for Christ's sake (pun indended). If it were unified anymore, the US would be COMPLETELY inhospitable to any person of another faith. So much for the melting pot.

So they can have a control over the state, and no doubt try to outlaw other religions.

Haha, oh boy, what a mess things would be then. Have you ever seen a Baptist Chruch split?
They all seem to assume it would be THEIR faith that would be leading the country.
