If you are unfamiliar with painkillers, then you will do just fine with Darvocet. Under no circumstances accept a prescription for Vicodin, unless you are prepared to be seriously constipated. Darvocet will do just fine and you will feel a mild, pleasant feeling. Accept the weakest prescription that will do the trick. Don't open a door that may be hard to close...meaning, being introduced to the stronger narcotics. Vicodin is a horrible drug.
ps: Your dentist will offer something for the pain. Make sure to ask him if there is codeine in it. It's not gonna be as bad as you think :)

They might prescribe you with a group of medicines called NSAIDS (non steroidal antiinflammatory drugs). This group of medicines include naproxen, ibuprofen etc. Besides relieving pain, these drugs can also reduce swelling (a common problem after tooth extraction).
Do inform your dentist that you have a family history of codeine so that they would not give you codeine. For most people, codeine makes people drowsy. Getting high on codeine is possible but not common.

Codein can make you feel floaty, but it also gives me really bad dreams, a dry mouth and an upset stomach. You most likely will get tylenol with codeine. Take it with food and only as much as is prescribed. I've had several surgeries on my shoulder so am well aquainted with pain killers. I hate them but for me it's a necessary evil. Good luck!

I had to have 3 teeth pulled recently. All due to a side affect of Radiation therapy. I only used tylenol.. 2-3 500MG each. Worked just fine. Just keep up the tylenol every 4ish hours.
GOOD LUCK

They probably won't prescribe you anything, but will start without any numbing agent unless you ask for them. And it'll most likely be local anesthetic, which will 'numb' the area if you can call it that. And if the dentists are cool, they'll inject novacaine xD

Why are you asking this under Beer, Wine and Spirits? This is a medical question.
