Hello,

Sciatica is a condition in which the sciatic nerve is compressed .It is a big nerve which starts from back and extends to the toes.any dislocation in lumbar vertebrae causes pressure over the nerve and leads to severe pain, numbness, attimes complete immobility. Hence in such conditions Lumbar traction is advised. In mimimal conditions, bed rest over a hard surface is advised. All movements which might have strain over the back should be avoided.

The symptoms you describe sounds like sciatica or disc degeneration or herniation with nerve compression.
Numbness is a sure sign of sciatic nerve compression. I would go see a neurologist as soon as possible to find out exactly what the problem is. Keep in mind that sciatic nerve damage can be reversible, but the longer it is left untreated the greater the chances of permanent damage.
You will probably have an EMG and an MRI to help diagnose the problem, and then phsiotherapy and/or surgery to correct the problem(s).

It could be that your body is not used of standing for long periods of time and so when you got home, you did not stretch your body to get it out of the standing mode/relaxed for 10/15 minutes, so by you going straight to bed, your body had to adjust to soon too quickly. To help with the back pain, take a warm face-cloth and apply it to the area where the pain is and leave for 10 minutes then apply ice-pack for 10 minutes and keep repeating it until you feel much better, a headache tablet will also help as it will release the tension in your back. Make sure to wrap the ice-pack in a cloth or something because direct ice will burn your skin.

Hope your back is feeling better
