While my family and I were on vacation the person we left in charge of taking care of my cat who at the time was a kitten accidentally left him locked in a room for two days without water or food. He wouldn't have had to stay in there so long had the idiot guy we left in charge gone to the apartment every day as he was supposed to. Anyway, when he did find my kitten he was comatose. He had suffered kidney failure from the lack of food and water and from refusing to "go to the bathroom" in the room (cats are very clean)..luckily after months of intensive care my cat recovered...the point of my story is that since then my cat has had an extremely sensitive system, not just his stomach but his liver and kidneys as well...He's been eating "Hill's Science Diet: Formula Kd" for about 13 years now and it's worked great. I highly recommend it. It is extremely nutritional and does not have any "fun" flavors or additives that would upset your cat's stomach. Oh, and my other cat had to go on the same diet because it would have been impossible to keep separate food dishes. It worked fine for her as well even though she didn't need the special diet. It's simply a gentle food that has just the nutrients cats need, nothing more, nothing less. I would talk to your cat's vet before hand just to make sure your cat is suitable for it. It cannot be bought at just any pet store or supermarket, you need to get it at a vet or have it specially ordered. If your cat does start eating this food but finds the kibbles too hard to chew I would try soaking them in a little bit of water to make them easier to swallow--it sounds gross but believe me your cat doesn't care. Soaking them in milk is probably not a good idea, many cats cannot stomach milk and it simply makes them sick.

In any case, I advise against canned foods--they have all sorts of preservatives and additives and are flavor enhanced regardless of whether or not the packaging says 'all natural flavors'. Mainstream cat food is usually not the healthiest choice for a cat with stomach problems. Also, don't feed him scraps from the dinner table, his meow and stare may be persistent and hard to resist but many 'human' foods can cause upset stomachs in cats along with vomiting and diarrhea.

You should also try giving him "NutriCal": it is a vitamin supplement and if given once a week tends to help with the hairball situation. Healthy hair means it won't fall out so easily when your cat grooms himself and is therefore less likely to swallow too much hair. Oh, and cat's really like it...it's like a goo that smells kinda funny and you put a strip on your finger (as if you were putting toothpaste on your toothbrush) and let him lick it off.

One more suggestion, and this will sound silly, but try giving your cat bottled water rather than tap water...tap water usually contains many minerals that may or may not affect your cat's stomach and it also usually contains some small amount of chlorine used to kill bacteria but that may be upsetting your cat's stomach...hope this helps! good luck! :)

Don't feed him canned tuna; it has things in it that are very bad for cats. If your cat has a hairball problem, it's separate from this.

He's probably just a finicky eater; a truly vague expression which yields no insight as to remedy, but that's what they call it. Your vet can, after examination and some probing suggest and supply a diet that will fit your cat. BTW, puking doesn't necessarily mean he's sick; cats puke for many different reasons. Sometimes they just feel like doing it! I had one cat for a long time that would barf 5-8 times per week for no apparent reason; it was just a part of his routine.

My Poppy had a sensitive stomach as well. She didn't throw up; her issues surfaced (so to speak) on the other end.

I THINK I've heard that Lamb is good for sensitive systems, and I know there are several good brands of canned food with Lamb. Eagle Pak (or Pack) is one that comes to mind.

However, Poppy is now eating Natural Balance Venison and Green Pea, and that suits her very well.

FYI, contrary to other opinions, canned food is the best you can do. I believe it's a much better choice for any cat, but particularly for cats with sensitive systems because you they have less grains/carbs. It's things like CORN and WHEAT that are considered allergens, which can contribute to digestive issues.

Please buy a food like Innova from feed store or pet store. It's mostly protein which is what cats thrive on in the wild. He's probably sensitive to all the filler they throw into cat foods. I'd throw up too if I was fed the quality of food we feed our animals. All Naturals is also a good food. Good Luck!

Also, just to add to the other excellent advice given, just because "lots of cats" have that problem, doesn't mean that he's not sick. Our cat was vomiting a lot, especially after he ate, and changing the food did nothing. We took him to the vet, and he had the beginning stages of renal failure. Had we ignored it, he could be dead now, instead he's happy and hearty 7 years later, on his prescription food and tablets.

Purina One has a good food for sensitive stomachs. I use it on my older cat because she was having issues and they seem to have gotten a lot better since I chanced her to it. I even give it to my new kitten and she loves it. I've also used things with lamb in it and that seems pretty good to. I mixed it with rice for a bit when my older cat was real sick.

Cooked Turkey or Chicken, with well boiled rice, and an eggyolk mixed in for taste.
Tunafish with mashed potatoes, green peas and some oliveoil for taste.Train him to this kind of food gently, like a few bites of chicken on his regular food.Cats need more protein than dogs,so meat is imperative.

Have you tried feeding him canned tuna? We do this at our house combined with hairball control food and it seems to work.
