It is not likely to happen suddenly and that would give the U.S. time to begin getting serious about alternate fuel. The U.S. would have to fire up the coal burning plants that people have been trying to get rid of for years. But, when the lights go out and the tv won't work and the refrigerator won't cool the people will be glad to have the coal plants back on line.
If it happened suddenly there would be a tremendous shock that would likely be felt the world over. Things would be tough for awhile because many businesses are totally reliant on trucking for moving their goods. People would HAVE to adjust. With fuel shortages they would be riding bicycles to the bus and train stop. Cars would sit in the garage or driveway waiting for the day when gas is available again. It was like that in 1941-1945 when World War II was being fought. There would be a lot of people temporarily out of work. A world wide recession would result and people in most countries would be facing unemployment. The U.S. would have to go to the U.N. and scream for sanctions against the countries that are withholding oil but that could take years to do any good. Pray it never happens or the world as we know it will have serious problems.....

They would fall apart but I dont think they would ever do that. What ever happens to the U.S ecnomy affects every country. Warr31 you are seriously deluded if you think that Canada has the amount of oil the U.S needs. Howeever i do think the U.S will have big problems in the future China is buying up all of Africas oil so the options will be limited.

seriously, you think the USA gets all of its oil from middle east. It is only 3.2% of all the nations oil... So, we could just find another place like maybe the "new" oil drilling off the gulf coast. Just dsicovered sitting at 600,000 million barrels???
