I have had ECT (shock) therapy 2 times. It helped SOOO much and I think it saved my life.

It is not painful. You goto the hospital, and the doctors put you to sleep. They also give you a muscle relaxant, so that when you are shocked, your body does not flap around. Usually the doctor puts the probe on one side of your head and then they give you a brief shock. That's it....

They wheel you back to the recovery room, where you will wake up. The process takes like 30 minutes. But count on 1.5-2 hours to get ready, get shocked, and wake up.

After I woke up I had headaches and felt like throwing up. I took a nap and felt better later that day. Some people have claimed to have memory loss, but I never did.

Normally you will have between 6-12 sessions. In the United States, you would go Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

It really helped me and I had little side effects.

Take the meds and forget the shock therapy cause they will give U a high dose of Insulin and cause U to seizure all over the place--of course, it is done in a controlled atmosphere.

I've never personally used it, but it usually works really well for individuals that do not respond to medications and counseling. If your doctor has suggested it, it might be a good option for you. It is very invasive however and should only be used as a last resort.

I've had ECT after trying loads of meds that didn't work, and it didn't work as well. Some people it does work for though. Its worth giving a try. It gives you short term memory problems for a little while afterwards but they eventually come back.
Good luck!

What's your reason for therapy? I was depressed for a month, I tried anti-depressants but they never worked. It sucks the life out of you.
I suggest going go the gym and working out. Make goals, stay dedicated and achieve them. It's the best anti-depressant.
