"What causes migraine headaches?
Migraine headaches seem to be caused in part by changes in the level of a body chemical called serotonin. Serotonin plays many roles in the body, and it can have an effect on the blood vessels. When serotonin levels are high, blood vessels constrict (shrink). When serotonin levels fall, the blood vessels dilate (swell). This swelling can cause pain or other problems.

Many things can affect the level of serotonin in your body, including your level of blood sugar, certain foods and changes in your estrogen level if you're a woman."

I get migraines a lot and they are triggered by many different things, for me it's red wine, stress, allergies, and certain foods. When you said you used to get them more than once a day, that sounds like a 'cluster migraine' , they usually happen back to back. If you're really concerned a simple CAT scan of the head can rule out brain tumors....not to scare you, but it does happen....but since you have not had any in a long time until tonight it's probably just a random thing. There are a lot of good meds on the market for migraines. It could also be your sinuses too! Similar symptoms, without the nausea so much. See a doctor if you're pain doesn't resolve.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

hi misty -i get migraines and i sometimes but rarely get the vomiting and sickness, i found that the tablets help but the problem is more deep seated. I once had one so bad i went blind and was rushed to hospital , by the time i got to see the doctor, he told me to look at my life and work out what aspects of it were giving me the headache- i couldn't believe it- i was on holiday and happy, i wasn't impressed that that was all i got from a proffessional when i was allready humiliated that i was in the shower when the headache came on full blast and i was wet , naked and wrapped in a sheet and carried in by my boyfriend who nearly was treated for a heart attack as he thought i was going to die, i was 21 at the time. i am in my 50's and have found from experience drink lots of water every day preferrably filtered water as city water has alot of additives. , watch your diet as this will definetely contribute to your headaches, perfumes can cause head aches and as the doctor referred to, watch out for stressfull situations, check out EFT on the net- they have a technique that is suppose to get rid of headaches in minutes, i've been drinking lots of water and have not had a headache for a while so haven't got to try the tehnique as yet, but my friend swares by it.- the usual exercise and healthy living but for now try the eft- it something to do with tapping on some part of your body------ good luck
