I'm on a diet, and I've been doing well... I keep all yummy snacks out of my house, I buy only healthy foods and only buy groceries when I'm not hungry, I even bought a gift card for the grocery store and for gas so I don't need to bring money to work (we sell candy!) but can still stop for gas and groceries if I need to on the way home. I have no problem not buying treats at the grocery store (it's easy to just ignore them for the 2 seconds I'm passing buy). My only issue is when my coworkers bring treats for everyone at work. Cake, donuts, cookies, whatever! There's always donuts once a week, and frequently snacks thoughout the week. I can't control myself when it's sitting in the breakroom looking so good, and I have to go in the breakroom to eat my lunch (salad). I have no self control, and I can't ask people not to bring snacks and ruin it for everyone else. So does anyone have any techniques to simply NOT eat the donut sitting in front of me? How do I learn self control?

Well, you have to look the donut in its metaphorical face, and tell it (and yourself) that your goal (fitting back into your pants, good health, etc.) is more important to you than its yummy donutty goodness.

I had a Weight Watchers leader who told us this mantra, and it does help. "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels." When you resist the donut, give yourself a non-food reward. Like a magazine you enjoy, or a few minutes for yourself.

You're depriving yourself. That's why it's taking on such importance. The key to successful weight loss is good diet and exercise for life - diets don't work because they're viewed as temporary.
I say go ahead and have a donut. Don't wolf it down: eat it slowly. Enjoy it. Some time in the week, go take a nice long walk, or go jog, or whatever you like to do and go burn off that donut. You'll feel less deprived that way and it will increase your chances of success.
Best of luck to you.

Self-manipulate is, a minimum of in aspect, a position of the pre-frontal cortex. As a prime university scholar making plans to fundamental in psychology, believe that I do do not forget studying an editorial within the big apple instances in which a few research or different indicated that now not best did undertaking in that neighborhood arise throughout impulse manipulate, however that a few pre-frontal cortexs had been extra "informed" than others, in which I feel the analogy needed to do with brushing your enamel and consuming cakes whilst on a nutrition. Basically, will energy is a train, now not a skillability: simply believe approximately batman (fanatics will have to get that analogy). Here's an editorial sited:

I actually have encountered the same problem when I'm at work, brownies, M&M's, Cake, all sorts of treats, you know the drill. What helps me is just to make sure that I have good, healthy food.

You're on a diet, sure, but that doesn't mean you can't have something awesome like star fruit or something like that to keep you occupied. That's just one thing, of course.

The biggest mental help for me is just to force myself to stop and look at what I'm doing. I have to acknowledge that it's going to taste good for a second, and make me very upset for days, months, hell, my whole life. Eating these foods does invoke a pleasure response in the brain, but I can either do that for 5 minutes a day, or enjoy an AWESOME body for 24 hours a day.

Just stopping to think does wonders.

Its simple just force yourself not to get up and go get it.You should really just treat yourself. What i mean is since your on a diet you should treat yourself once a week to sweets.Like i do.If you have been "good" all week long and have not eaten any sweets then you should treat yourself on saturday night. And everytime you look at the donuts in the breakroom just remind yourself that they are bad for you and that your on a diet and should not have it.

Yeah I'm a sucker for donuts and cookies too. What I do is just have ONE not anything more. Then maybe during your next meal you eat lesser than what you usually have. And excercise... burn the baby off.
