Back in October, I noticed my kitten was getting ill. Concerned, I took him to my vet and explained EVERYTHING. The vet gave him an antibiotic for his URI, but didn't really address the other concerns, saying the URI was probably leading it all. After competing the antibiotic cycle, he didn't get better. So I took him back, explained EVERYTHING in GREAT detail again, and even asked if he should/could stay a night for observation and was actually laughed at. The vet (another one/same location) prescribed another antibiotic long term and lysene, but said they'd be useless until this round of what they believed was herpes was finished. I was concerned about the kitten's weight, mouth sores and lack of eating but she didn't say much. Two days later my kitten died in a Pet ER. Is 60 days too long to complain? It has honestly taken me that long to face Tiger's horrible, unnecessary death, but I feel like the vet didn't do their job. The ER said he was misdiagnosed and not treated properly.

Write a letter to your state's Board of Veterinary Medicine with a complaint about the specific hospital. To start looking for a new vet hospital to take any other pets at home (if any), visit www.healthypet.com to find another animal hospital in your area accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. Keep in mind that the accreditation alone does not imply it will be a good hospital; it's just a good place to start. Sorry for your loss.

I being a cat person myself understand how you must feel at losing Tiger..I lost one of my two cats earlier this year and it was really difficult to cope with...I personally would ignore whatever the time limits may be for complaining, march into both vets' offices, and tell them a thing or two...honestly, I would even try to take legal action to get their medical licenses revoked or at least have their facilities as well as "expertise" reevaluated...laughing at a pet owner's concerns is definitely not a response you would receive from a serious professional...it may seem a bit drastic but it's really enraging the way people disregard an animal's right to justice, I may sound cooky but it's something I've always felt strongly about...One thing is for sure, I wouldn't stand in the sidelines allowing such an individual to continue his/her negligence and cause others the same grief you've had to deal with...I wish you luck and again I'm truly sorry about what happened to Tiger.

I don't know where the others got their information as to the statute of limitations on complaints. It sounds as if blatant disregard for your cat was afoot in the situation and you should definitely do something about it. You owe it to yourself and Tiger; obviously you were devastated by it and should not let it go lightly. Also, future animals being taken to that vet should be protected from possibly having a similar experience. I'm not saying I know that you can get satisfaction or even where you should start, but if it took this long for you to even be able to begin addressing it, then it was one of the more traumatic experiences you've probably been through. I know how attached I am to my cat, and I'm a 6'2" 215lb biker and look the part, and if a vet did anything to hurt or (God forbid!) cause his death, they wouldn't stop hearing from or about me until I knew I had done everything I could to them, because my cat is my best friend! He saw me through the most traumatic experience of my whole life and he's MORE important to me than most people. You owe it to yourself and to Tiger to do everything you can within reason. If nothing else, it'll help you with your healing process.

NO it is NEVER TOO LATE TO COMPLAIN!!!!!
to the people suggesting that it is too late and just to not use the vet again, after the DEATH after this persons pet, you are rediculous -- obviously they are not going to 'use the vet again'. and how on earth, Ashley, did you come up with GUIDELINES as to when people can complain? That's like telling a friend that they only have 24 hours to tell you about something that upset them. that doens't even make sense. the vet doesn't tell you when you can and cannot complain.
it's just like the workplace -- whistleblowers sometimes come out months, even years, later.
you may not get a response you want, but be loud, make noise, make it known what happened to you.
it is never, ever too late.
i am so sorry for your loss.

I got identified with genital herpes (type 2) about five yrs ago, whilst I was still attending college and had a mindless one-night stand. I understand lots of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date other men again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her private parts? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/Wki3T everything improved.

Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This program gave me back the chance to be happy and experience real love again. Now I want to help others by sharing this story.

It depends on the animal hospital in question.

Some give you 24 hours, some give you a week, some a month, and others longer. You need to check with the individual vet clinic in question and find out.

Most consider 60 days to be too long of a time period, so good luck. I'm sorry for the loss of your pet.

I would certainly complain. And I do understand why it took you this long. Its the cycle of dealing with loss of a lved one: shock, disbelief, desperate grief, anger, deep sadness, acceptance... you are probably in the anger stage but acting on it can give you a therapeutic "out." Don't bottle it in.

I am sooo sorry that you lost your kitty through mis-diagnosis. Sharing your story here will help some of us take note on the vets that we do go to.

Your kitty is waiting for you by the Rainbow Bridge. I have several waiting for me there, I know.

it's too late to complain but the best thing you can do is to not use that vet again and if any of your friends ask, recommend another vet
