Only when shedding puppy teeth, until about 8 months old..after that, it is just poor dental care
The lower incisors change some weeks later, and also the fangs (at eighteen weeks). Normally there are 28 milk teeth and 42 definitive. If you have a dog of the brachycephalic breeds or "broad skull", like the bulldog, you must watch carefully that teeth are tight enough, due to the small size of the mouth. Some dogs, like the Chihuahua's milk teeth don't always fall off and can remain alongside the definitive teeth. If this is the case, go to the veterinarian.

Some of the toy breeds don't have great teeth. It seems some of them will just pop out with hardly any pressure and the next dog's teeth are solid.
The tooth was most likely lost when chewing a toy or rawhide type thing. Look at the gums, see if the tooth came out completely or if there is some of the base in there still. Then you will need a vet to remove the rest of it, and antibiotics.

Young pups lose baby teeth like humans. An older will also lose teeth. I didn't take my pup to the Vet when she lost a tooth. I just observed if she was eating as well as usual, and that told me that the area of the gum was not sore. Best of luck to the both of you! The very cutest card I got this Christmas was of my friend's Chihuahua dressed up like an elf!

Definately call your vet. If the dog is no longer a young puppy, then you may want to check the gums for redness, inflammation, and a fowl odor. Your dog could have periodontal disease. This can be life threatening if left untreated, because the infection can enter the bloodstream and travel to the organs. HOWEVER, there are many other reasons why a dog may lose a tooth, so don't panic, just talk to your vet.

If she is more than a year old, yes, you need to take her to the vet because there is a high possibility that her root could be exposed, causing a tremendous amount of pain. She may need antibiotics for an infection, and she may need her teeth cleaned.

If she's a puppy, don't worry. Dogs lose their first set of teeth, just like human babies. If she's a grown dog, call your vet and see what he says.
