Because MS doesn't think it is wise or useful for you to see them. Some files are hidden from the lowest level of the o/s so that no Windows program can see them, this facility is useful for MS to conceal information from you and also allows them to add hidden files and code so that they can do things on your machine that you can't see. Sony/BMJ made use of this dubious feature in writing their rootkit which was hidden from users but also opened a back door for malicious software.
No Vista for this boy, I blew XP off my new Dell E521 when I received it and loaded Debian Etch instead, it works wonderfully now and isn't doing anything underhand.

Hidden files are normally system files, though some viruses trojans, etc. can also be in the system as hidden files. Moreover, even users are able to have hidden files by changing the properties of file(s) themselver.
To view hidden files in Microsoft Windows, perform the below steps.
Open explorer
Click the "Tools" drop down menu.
Click either "Folder Options" or "Options".
Click the "View" tab.
Within the view tab, select the option "Show hidden files and folders".
When enabled, you will be able to distinguish a hidden file from other files quickly by looking at the icon. Hidden files will appear as if they are faint (slightly grayed out). You can also look at the file attributes to see if it is a hidden file.

Some files are used only by the operating system or some application . There files are strictly not for any modification done by the user directly ( may b modified by the Application/OS) so these files are kept hidden

Very good question! Many crucial Windows system files are hidden (or invisible) by default to prevent them from being accidentally modified or deleted.

They're probably hidden system files. If you're looking in the Windows folder I wouldn't suggest deleting any of them. If you're worried about infections run anti-spy and anti-virus software.

go with the report which you particularly opt to concealed and suitable click on it. Now click residences and on the backside of the residences window, substitute the report's characteristic to "Hidden". All you will would desire to do to cover the report is to open any browser window and click "approaches" and the "Folder techniques" and verify "do no longer instruct hidden records and folders". To view the report, do purely the opposite.

some files are hidden (also protected) so people do not delete things that they should not.
