I take my dogs temperature starting a week before she is due. The normal temp is 101.5 (plus or minus a degree) Fahrenheit. About 24 hours before she is going to have her puppies her temp will drop to below 99 degrees.

Also, she may refuse food and start making a bed for her to have the puppies on (called nesting) the day she is due.

if you take her temp rectal and it has dropped below 100 then she will give birth in the next 24 hours, she will stop eating, when she is in labor then she will start to make a nest shredding up newsapaper or the bedding that you have down for her to have her puppies on, she will start to pant and maybe even cry, you can see contractions and feeling them too by placing your hand on her belly, I hope this has helped and good luck with the new puppies,,

If you don't know the answer to the question you have asked you could be in serious trouble.

I suggest you contact your Vet and ask them what you should be expecting and what signs you should be looking for.

Do you know how long to leave a ***** straining for before you need to rush her to the Vets for an emergency C-Section?

She will go off her food. (although in some rare cases this does not happen)She will also be restless, and maybe found scratching in some out of the way place in ready for the eminent birth.

She will make a "nest", and hang out there, and will likely howl when labor starts. Don't worry, she will know what to do.

when my dog is in labour she follows me around the house from room to room, she doesn't like to be left alone. She will also pant a lot.
