Currently I live at college on on-campus apartment housing. My neighbors are exceedingly loud and have their music and bass on all the way, through all hours of the day. It has been going on for months now, and every time it happens I contact my residence hall director as per university policy. However, he doesn't ever seem to do anything (and I believe he is friends with the girls). I've spoken to the dean of student affairs as well as the dean of residence life. And I've read through the school policy concerning noise. (No noise is to be heard outside of the apartment at any hour of the day, and repeated violations can results in housing contract termination). Today I called my RA for what must be at least my 30th time (I've documented all the times I've called) and he was exceedingly rude to me, telling me that he "didn't have time to entertain this". Can I contact the police about this? Isn't noise violation a violation of some state statute? How about the campus police?

Sorry, did not elaborate.. the deans just pushed it back onto the RA and said that they'd contact them about it.. and it just goes in a big circle! Also I've talked to the girls and they insist their music is "not so loud" -- even though I can at times discern SPECIFIC songs that are playing. It's hard for me to approach their apartments when it's loud, also, because although they are adjacent neighbors, they are actually in another complex that requires a different key swipe.

Of course you may contact the police (preferably the Campus Police first because the local police will call them in to assist anyway). Also see if there is an internal affairs or ombudsman of some sort at your school. They can deal with the noise and the lack of interest by your RA and the school. Finally as a last resort, you may hire a lawyer and put the school on notice for the harrassment. You have a right to enjoy your college days, but you have an obligation to put other people on notice when they are bugging you (more than a reasonable amount). Great question!

I know a thing or two about law enforcement. You are on a college campus, but if the campus cannot uphold their own laws and contracts then you have every right to call the police. I'm pretty sure the campus has their own law enforcement. Give them a call and report it, if they don't respond give them another call telling them that if they can't handle it then you'll call the real cops. Sooner or later something has got to give but dealing with pencil pushers isn't the way especially if the people involved are girls. Call the cops, tell them to come to your room first so that you can show them the problem. That should take care of it. Also be sure to type a letter to the head departments above the ones of those deans you tried to talk to because they aren't doing their job.

Breaking a tumbler isn't a noise violation. The police received't do some thing about it. If the neighbor do not say what the noise develop into the police will come out & communicate, yet they received't do some thing about it. appears like your neighbor merely needs to reason some complications for you. Noise violation is rather loud music or television after a particular time. in certain circumstances struggling with if it is going on for a lengthy time period & receives louder.

did you already confront the girls about it? Tell them to play their music w/out the sub on.
I'd give up dealing with the RA. What did the deans say? Go to the campus police and if they dont do anything then contact the real police.

Heck, where i am if its after 10 pm then you can call the police about it. if i recall correctly 2nd or 3rd offense its either the people in the place or the landlord get a fine. why not contact the campus police and check with them about it,, sounds like a good idea. the RA doesn't sound like he is doing his job either whether they are friends of his or not. what did those 2 deans say about it? i say when i doubt check with the people in charge of security.

Yes contact the police and make sure that you show them the records of all of the events, and what the superiors decided to do about it. Good luck, no one should have to suffer like that, there probably failing out anyways!
