Depends on the amount of Alcohol and how fast your body processes it. Thy might not be able to tell until the blood is processed at a lab. I don't think it's on the deferment list though.

Another factor is the amount of time since the last drink and your donation time.

They will be able to tell if the smell remains on your breath.
You could be deferred if your an Alcoholic maybe.

According to the University of Illinois Medical Center (reference link below) you shouldn't be intoxicated at the time of donation. Otherwise, the donation would be gladly accepted.

Specifically, their web site FAQ says that alcohol cosumption doesn't require a wait unless intoxicated - a bit vague, I realize, but it's one of the only references to pre-donation alcohol consumption that I could find. In other words, unless you'd been drinking fairly recently, it doesn't seem like a big deal.

depends if you still have alcohol in your blood when they take it from you. they will test the quality of the blood usually before taking it. This is to make sure your blood has sufficient red blood cells and isn't too "watered down" so that when a person in surgery needs it, isn't getting shafted
