I am so worried! I have one cavity and I hope it doesn't hurt! This is my first time having a cavity!

It won't hurt if you get the Novocaine. I got it, but my dentist didn't wait for it to wear in when I got my second and third cavities filled, so it hurt a lot. But if it sets in, you should be fine, you'll just hear the drill and feel a little bit of pressure on your teeth, no big deal. I was scared at first, too. You can also ask for some nitrous oxide to calm you down.

If you just need the cavity packed, then you won't need an injection, they will just pack the material in, mould it, and let it set for a few minutes, I'm mega scared of dentists, and I had an entire side cavity filled this way, including having the previous one picked out.

If they have a CD player there, take a CD of your favourite easy listening music, take your mind off things, or take a friend with you, and ask them to talk to you, or just think about something good, like a party you're going too.

Most of the time, I just take some New World Music with me, (rain-fall, dolphins, that sort of thing).

Also, tell them you're nervous, ask them to show you what instruments they will be using, and to explain what they're doing every step of the way, that way, you will know what's going on.

You'll be fine. You just feel some pressure at times, and when you get the injection, it will sting for a fraction of a second. Good Luck with that!
