My granny is in her eighties and her joints are getting weaker each day, especially her two kneecaps, which are really hurting. It really pains my heart to see her condition deteriorate, she used to be able to limp her way around, but now she can hardly walk......knee guards and health supplements for the ligament doesn't seem to work, or maybe this is juz something that the elderly have to bear with as they age......anyone out there with any experience care to share their solutions, or even offer me some things my granny can do, I would like to thank you beforehand because I really do not know what more I as a grandson can do to ease her pain......

There is no reason for her to deal with this pain. There is so much they can do. Their are injections to put more cushion in the joints and their are surgeries including total knee replacement. If surgery isn't an option they can do more to control her pain because it is obviously interfearing in the quality of her life. No one should have to deal with pain if they don't have to. My Grandmother's brother just had total knee replacement and he said he wished he had done it sooner. She could also get physical therapy to see if that helps. Most creams and other supplements will not help as it is usually the cushion in the joint or the joint itself. They have injections now where they can replace the cushion in the joints. Steriod injections can also help.

Even if surgery isn't an option she needs to get help with the pain.
If an orthopedic doctor can't help her then see a pain management specialist. My other Grandmother that is 95 goes hot air ballooning, takes cruises, etc. She takes medication for joint pain.

See how you can help her around the house, show her who much you love her and hopefully she can get some help.

Hello there. I'm a writer for Gilbert Guide (the foremost source for everything senior care) and I recently wrote a blog about yoga for seniors. I saw some great recommendations in the answers your question garnered, and I think this would be a wonderful additive to lotions and bandages. Yoga helps improve blood circulation and works wonders in easing joint pain. It may sound difficult to imagine an eighty year old woman bending and stretching, but a little gentle movement can work wonders for strengthening her body. Many studios have senior yoga classes, taught by instructors who understand the specific needs of elderly people. What's nice about this option is that it'll not only help ease her existing pain, it'll improve her overall physical health and prevent additional aches and pains. You can check out the yoga blog here:

I wish your granny the best of luck and a life of health, happiness and strength!

Hi Bobby,

My grandma also suffered from knee joint pain for many years.. and so I got her to take some health foods to ease the pain..

After going on a detox on the health foods, she is now much better and doesnt suffer from so much pain anymore.. and she is still actively working and walking around...

My mentor, who used to be a health consultant also made his mum go through a detox using the same set of pdts.. her arthiritis used to be so bad that when she sits down, she cannot stand up immediately without people pulling her at her armpits on both sides.

Now she can do chinese dance and can even do a split.

Would your grandma be interested in that as well?

All your grandma will need to do for the detox is three things:

Number one: Watch the things that she eats. I will explain to her what things are better for her leg problem and what are not so good so that she can eat less of the not so good stuff.

Number 2: Take some of the health foods I was talking about to speed up the process of detox and also to supplement her nutritional intake and energy level as well.

Number 3: Drink more water to flush the toxins out.

As a grandson, all you need to do is to ask her if she wants to start walking again and bring her to see me for a consultation and support her and gently remind her to consume her health foods.

And that's it.

The rest is up to you.

So what do you think?

Is she taking any medication for the pain?

If she can take aspirin that helps but be sure it does not conflict with any other meds she is taking

Does she have a cane? That helps a lot.

Also you can get elastic ace bandages at the drug store that will help some and massage Grannie's knees with warm oil or lotion.

Thank you for wishing to help Granny
