I'm looking for a lamens term defination and whats a good aspect ratio?

OK, HD is broadcast in 16:9 ( or widescreen ). Regular non HD channels broadcast in 4:3 ( fullscreen).

A good aspect ratio depends on personal preference. If you like the widescreen look, use it, just be careful of burn in on most tv's from having those bars on top and bottom. Now you can go between both aspects and be safe.

a good aspect ratio is 16:9 thats HD is Broadcast in the 16:9 ratio so its better to go with something that wont be obsolete in 3 years
