If you buy a pedigree dog from a 'cheap' breeder, you'll more than likely get a pet who develops serious health problems. So, not only will the pet you may have grown to love have a likelihood of getting very sick and dying, but you'll spend all you saved and more in vet bills. A dog is a long term commitment and as such should be purchased with an eye toward that fact. However, if you find a mixed breed that closely resembles a Yorkie, you'll get a dog that's inexpensive, is probably smarter and will probably live a long, trouble free life with nothing more than yearly shots and checkups.

If you can't afford a Yorkie from a ethical registered breeder then you can't afford it full stop.

If you get a 'cheap' Yorkie from a Back Yard Breeder or Puppy Farm you'll find yourself spending thousands at the vets in the future.

Do yourself a favour and save up and get yourself a healthy well tempermented dog froma registered breeder.

If you can't afford the dog now, how are you going to financially support yourself and the dog for 10-15+ years?
There are many places you can get a Yorkie and the prices range from anywhere like $250-$2500!

1. Yorkie Rescue) Go and adopt a Yorkie from a Yorkie rescue group. A puppy should cost around $300-$400 and an adult would be around $200-$350.
2. Animals Shelter) Although it may take a while, sooner or later your local RSPCA/ASPCA would get an adult Yorkie in for much cheaper than one from a Yorkie Rescue. Adult at a shelter would be around $120-$220 and a puppy at around $180-$300.
3. Pet Shop) DO NOT BUY FROM A PET STORE, NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY REDUCE THE PRICE AND HOW MUCH THEY TELL YOU THE PUPPY IS PERFECTLY HEALTHY AND COMES FROM REPUTABLE BREEDERS IN YOUR STATE! The puppies come from PUPPY MILLS that breed un-healthy, sad dogs every single heat. The puppies are torn from their mother from as soon as 3 weeks old to go and live behind glass in a pet store for a few weeks. After the mum dog in no longer able to produce a decent ammount of puppies, they chop her head off. If the puppies do not sell, they send them to other pet stores. If they still don't selll...they kill them. Yorkie puppies at a pet store would be around $900-$1200 for males and $1000-$1400 for females.
4. Backyard Breeder - AKA BYB) BYBs are like a "Do-It-Yourself" puppy mill. They buy dogs and breed them every single heat. They do not screan their dogs for ANY hereditary diseases, they let their dogs sleep outside, they are usually living in poor-quality houses and the owners don't give a damn about the health or well-being of their dog(s) or the puppies that the dog is forced to produce. Puppies from a BYB would be (un-registered) around $400-$800.
5. Registered Breeder) A registered breeder is the absolute SAFEST way to buy a puppy. They screan their dogs for all and any hereditary diseases, they care about the well-being and state of their dog(s), they care about the well-being and life of the puppies they raise, they show their dogs (to proove that their dog is worth breeding) before even considering breeding, they take proper care of their dogs and they will take any puppy in at whatever age if the owner can not care for the dog any longer. They usually have two qualities of puppies: SHOW QUALITY and PET QUALITY. The show quality pups are always more expensive as they are of breeding and show quality. They are around $1400 for males and $1600 for females. Pet quality Yorkie pups are around $1100 for males and $1200-$1400 for females. Yes, they are much more expensive than a BYB sells them for but in the long run, it is the safest and smartest option.
****NOTE***** Registered breeders SOMETIMES sell their dogs if they don't do too well in the show ring or they are retired from breeding and/or showing. They would be around $700-$1000 depending on age and sex.

Check out the shelter and the yorkie rescues. Or else be prepared to pay big bucks!

yorkies are not cheap. if you want a high quality yorkie which are small they run around 500.00 if you buy a yorkie and as an adult it is big than you got robbed. true yorkies are small when they are adults. good luck i had one and they are very highper dogs and i mean very. they are adorable though.

You get what you pay for. My cousin has 2. Her male was $700.00 and the female was $900.00. She had to promise she would have them spayed so as not to compete with the breeder. If money is an issue, you'll have to find another breed.

go to petfinder.com and rescue one for a few hundred....in my area they cost about 600-1500 dpending on how much the breeder lies about the pedigree! ps. don't get one if yu work all day, they hate to be alone...mine shakes everytime I leave home...they want someone with them at all times.
