I'm reasonably familiar with the collected works of Isaac Asimov and I don't recall him ever covering the history of the Khazars one way or the other. The only place where I could think of him saying such a thing would have been Asimov's Guide to the Bible, but it doesn't deal with modern history. I'm also not aware of any serious member of the science community that ever labeled Dr Asimov a "quack".

I would suspect that you are thinking of Arthur Koestler (whose book Ghost In The Machine was turned into a hit record by The Police). Arthur Koestler was the Jewish author who thought he might avert anti-semitism from himself by claiming that most Ashkanazi Jews are descended from the Khazars. He was the author of the book The Thirteenth Tribe that has become a favorite of Nazis around the world.

Of course, the big problem is that he ignores the history of the Khazars and the fact that the majority of them converted to Islam just a few hundred years later.

But, even if it were true that the Khazars converted to Judaism and stayed converted - so what? The Khazars were in the area where Assyria banished the Northern Kingdom of Israel to, so the Khazars were probably descendant of Israelites who had fallen into idolatry, got dispersed and then became converted back.

Judaism has always had converts. Avraham's servant Eliezer was Torah faithful and he certainly wasn't Jewish! Read the book of Ruth - she was a Moabitess! Study the Bible more and you will see.

Reading history would help as well. There was a 7th century historian who did describe the Khazars as being blue-eyed and blonde haired (although some manuscripts of his work say red-haired). Hey maybe the Khazars became Irish!

I'm sorry, I'm a fan of Political Correctness and all, but there's a degree where it has to stop, and you've reached it. Free thinking doesn't make one a Nazi. I'm a big, big fan of Israel and those of the Jewish peoples. I think both should be protected to any length for no other reason than I love an underdog story. But to say that a historian is against an entire race because of a theory is a little harsh. Besides, whether or not they were born Jews or became Jews later is moot, when they became circumsized and accepted the Jewish faith, they became Jews.

Besides, the Asimov family WAS JEWISH.

I am a Jew---and I do believe that the majority of the Eastern European Jews come from the Khazar's. I have read many books on this. But, the Eastern Europeans Jews are not ''most'' of the Jews. There are Jews from all over the word, with all colors, nationalities, etc.,.

I have often laughed when I hear someone say that a person ''looks like a Jew''. That particular person-to me-looks like a Turk (the Khazars). And, for your information, there is no one look for Jews----we are too diversified.

Alright, firstly...Jesus was BORN Jewish, he did not convert. His deciples were the ones who created the beginnings of Christianity after he was killed by Pontius Pilate in i think 1bce. The hebrews have always been jewish, its just that over time the rituals ceremonies and traditions have changed or developed into what is Judaism today. Mohammed started islam, he didn't convert to islam. the Jews are the rightful owners of israel, but the dispute is that the muslims that lived in israel BEFORE 1948 were both kicked out or fled. I think the muslims who lived in Israel before 1948 should be brought back, but not after. The palestinians are in a horrible situation because no other arab country wants to deal with them or take them in so they are stuck with the israelis for the time being.

That's ridiculous. The latter day conversion of Caucus tribes is a matter of historic fact - why would stating this make Asimov (a deceased Jew) a Nazi?

Troll, be gone!

Nah, not all jews are Khazars !! If you want to learn how to differentiate between a jew that is Khazar or not, look at their hair colour and the colour of their eyes. if its blue eyes and blonde hair, yes, they are khazars. Ehud olmert, the prime minister of Israel, is a good example because his hair is blonde. While the jews who have dark black hair and bron eyes, they're semites...

Aw, did Isaac offend you? Are you upset? Would like me to tuck you in?

Look, instead of whining and bitching, look it up, study some, maybe he's wrong, maybe he's right. I will do this myself right now, actually. The only quack in this conversation is the one stupid enough to dismiss a theory because it would probably offend his mother's sensibilities.
