Former US secretary of state Colin Powell says the US military is "about broken" and can not handle any plans to boost the troop numbers in Iraq.
There are really no additional troops. All we would be doing is keeping some of the troops who were there there longer, and escalating or accelerating the arrival of other troops." said Powell. "I'm suggesting that what General Schoomaker (the US army's top general, Peter Schoomaker) said the other day before a committee looking at the (US military) Reserves and National Guard, that the active army is about broken," he added.
Powell also served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff -- the White House's main military advisory body -- from 1989 to 1993, under the current president's father, President George HW Bush.
"General Schoomaker is absolutely right," he said.
The former top US diplomat, who said the US army is not large enough to secure Baghdad .

I watched the Sunday Morning Show too & you were not listening.
He said sending more troops would not work until we had a clear plan as to how to utilize them. He thought sending more military advisors to train the Iraqis would be a better solution. He said they should be able to defend themselves so that no more troops would be needed to defend the advisors. The term "broken" was used to describe what they felt were too many active military being used, not the the military, itself, was broken.
Get off the computer when watching a show like that or you just catch half truths. We need to remember your famous words "he served" & that means he is not in the loop with current information. He was arm chair quarter backing - he is smart but not currently up to date on war imfo.

Uh, hate to bother you with the facts, but we already did beat them. We completed the invasion of Iraq rather quickly and deposed Hussein within a couple weeks.

The terrorist attacks in Iraq today are a separate issue.

Meanwhile, the US military has captured or killed -- and continues to do so -- thousands of terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The goal wasn't to beat Iraq. If it was the US would not have lost a single person as a distant missile attack destroyed the country. But does a country that has been consistently devastated by war need to have its big rubble turned into small rubble?
