Sangria is very nice and unexpected at a holiday party. And it's easy, and you can make a lot for cheap. :)

1 orange, sliced.
1 lemon, sliced.
1 lime, sliced.
1 cup sugar
1 cup orange liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau)
1 bottle red wine.

Put the fruit and the sugar in a bowl or a ziptop bag and let them sit until the sugar is good and wet. Overnight works great. Chill the wine and liqueur while you're at it.

Dump all the ingredients in a punch bowl and stir. You can add a nice ice ring, maybe orange juice frozen in a bundt pan. I like to have enough on hand to make at least two batches, because it goes fast.

Use a good, but inexpensive wine. No need to break the bank when you're mixing it. Beaujolais is good, or go with something Spanish.

To me, it isn't the holiidays until I've had a Hot Buttered Rum!

2 cups (480 ml) apple cider
1 cinnamon stick
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 cup (120 ml) dark rum
2 tablespoons (28 g) cold unsalted butter

In a small saucepan, heat cider, cinnamon stick, honey, and lemon juice over low heat. Bring slowly to a boil and let simmer for 2 minutes. Meanwhile, pour 1/4 cup (60 ml) rum in each of 2 mugs. When cider is ready, pour into mugs. Discard cinnamon stick. Top each drink with 1 tablespoon (14 g) cold butter. Serve immediately.

Enjoy - and Happy Holidays! =)

Eggnog and Rum is always a popular treat. Go to your local liquor store. There will probably be seasonal drinks. Otherwise, try an Internet search and see what you can find. I'm sure something creative, like on foodnetwork.com.

Happy holiday party!

I love Blind Russians, equal parts coffee liquor, irish cream, and vodka over ice. I think they're yummy and they seem very special and the liquors are also good multi-purpose mixers for coffee or hot chocolate, etc. For the best experience, don't go cheap on your alcohol. Less better tasting drinks are always best!
