I agree with the first answerer, but in addition, pick something that you find challenging.
For me, I find computers and math both interesting and challenging since there is so much to learn and the subjects are so deep.
In college I was able to select a dual major with no minor majoring in both subjects. It was a huge amount of work but it was greatly rewarding.

simply take the best course available, in your eyes that is..
choose a course that you are interested in and a course that you know will sustain for more than another 50 years..

if you know what really grabs your interest follow that ... do what makes you want to do more ... you'll always succeed if you have a desire for the subject.

maybe you cuold just go around helping peopple with their real problems and eventually something unexpected will grab your attention and you will say "THIS is what I want to do." Then you'll know.
