If your mother was infected but you didn't have it, you could still be a carrier....does this mean your future partner should be tested? What if he is a carrier? I am not certain I am a carrier, can I get a test? I never had it but my mother did..

There are more chances of you being a carrier if your mother was not treated for the infection.you could be either an asymptomatic carrier or symptomatic. You could get your ESR evaluated,or you could get a sputum examined.Watch out for weight losses, evening rises of temperature.Firstly are you in an endemic area.

Just ask your doctor for a Mantoux test. It's the one where a small amount of purified protein derivative (PPD) is injected under the skin's surface. It's read 48 to 72 hours later. Your reaction or lack thereof will determine if you have been exposed to TB. Keep in mind that you can have a positive reaction and not have the disease. If you test positive, you will always test postive. In this case, you have a chest X-ray.

Anyone who is or has been at risk (health care workers) and anyone who has reason to believe they may have been exposed to an active case of TB should be tested.

TB is not a heriditary disease. It is an infectious disease. If you do not have it, you cannot pass it on. There is no carrier state.
