Spending time together! specific activities we've done: do crafts and baking together, play games. We like Yahtzee, Clue, Go to the Head of the Class. Make gifts for others. Teach your kids your values by doing "ordinary" activities and explaining Y you do what you do (grocery shopping - Y brand X and not brand A? How do you pick what apple to buy? etc.) Write letters to relatives together: each person writes something or draws something on the letter. Teach your kids your hobbies: let them watch dad fix the car and ask questions, let them watch mom sew up a pair of curtains and ask questions. TALK about things: everything imaginable. Watch Little House on the Prairie episodes and TALK about it. Watch the Travel channel and talk about what would be different about living there (where ever). Read together. Read classics that are above their reading level to them and discuss the story. Read a book together and watch a movie based on the book and compare and contrast. For kids? Keep them busy with what they like to do, but it works their minds and motor skills! Computers are fine, however imagination LIVES!!
For the whole family? Board or Card games. Not only for the minds and motor skills, but family time together is SO very few and far between nowadays..we should all do this more often!!

Think of the values you want your kids to develop. If you want them to learn to be kind then contact your church or social services and get the name of a family you can adopt for Christmas. Make Cookies for friends and neighbors. Go to the library and get books about the history of Christmas in other countries.
