depending on the medications yes it very well could cause symptoms of dementia. Get a list of all his meds. Research them on line and also ask your pharmacist to find out about interactions on certain drugs. Your pharmacist is your best bet at getting to the bottom of things. However, Dementia is also a part of getting older for some and this just might be whats facing you and your Dad. Don't be afraid to ask your Doctor these questions as well. If you feel you aren't getting the care you need for your Dad, By all means get him another Doctor. And keep looking until you find one that make you and your father comfortable.

YES, if your father is on a combination of medications, they certainly can cause dementia like symptoms. Talk to his Dr. about all the medications he is on and see if this is the case. I certainly hope so. Dementia is no picnic for you or your Dad.

It's possible for drug interactions to mimic other conditions. Whether or not this is the case with your father would, in part, depend on the medications that he takes. His particular combination of meds may have no interactions. Why not speak to his doctor about your concerns?

Dementia is similiar to Alzheimer's disease.
Dementia maybe caused by many things: genetic (metabolic or hormonal disorder), brain disorders, stroke, infections, substance abuse, alcohol, poisioning, side effects of medications (mostly antidepressants, sedatives, etc).
Unfortunately, once the person has dementia, it is irreversible.
