Everyone will tell you something different. some even believe there's more than one truth. The only truth is, God knows your heart. I found the following article on your very question:
http://www.everystudent.com/forum/whatif.html
Here's a thought: If you believe in/live for God and He's not real, you have lost nothing, but if you don't believe in/live for God you lose everything.
I gave my life to Christ Oct, 2005. I have experienced pain and pleasure the same (maybe more). the only difference is now:
1. I have a spiritual companion
2. I have a joy that cannot be explained through all of it.
3. I am a member of the family the lives to love through Jesus Christ.
Try reading John 16
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2016;&version=31;
I do suggest continuing to ask questions. God wants you to know Him. He knows and loves you!

It is true....there is no must!!! I believe in God because my heart and soul tells me that God exists, as all that is. Others choose to blindly accept what they are told is the only real truth, because they are afraid of eternal damnation if they don't. God does not demand that we believe any certain thing. God does not even demand that we believe any thing at all. God only wants us to find our own path, our own answers, and our own beliefs, by looking within ourselves, and not taking anyone else's word for anything.
There is no such thing as eternal damnation, or Judgment Day. God is pure love and pure energy, and we are all a part of what God is. We are co-creators with God. We are one with God, and one with each other. Some think that only God has the right to judge anyone, but only humans actually do. God never judges anyone for anything......ever!!!!

No one makes you believe in God. Some people do, some don't, but no one can really force you to believe in God.
Some people choose to believe in God for many reasons like:
1. Their parents or their friends read the bible and believe in God so they want to be like them so they believe in God, too.
2. They had a personal experience or a feeling, or vision or something that makes them believe in God.
3. Maybe they studied about God for a while and tried some of what the Bible or another book said, and it seemed to work so they believe in God. Or they prayed or talked to Jesus or God and it made them feel good inside or comforted so they believe.
4. They did "Pascal's Wager" which basically means that if you're not sure god exists then it's better to act like he exists, anyway. Cause if you act like God exists and he turns out to exist, when you die then you'll go to heaven instead of hell. And if he doesn't exist it doesn't really matter that much when you die. So basically with high stakes, you might as well bet on him existing since it might work out better overall if you play the game this way.
5. Religion might tell you to do nice things and nice things make people feel good so they feel good about believing in a religion and maybe believing in God.
6. It might be a good way to meet friends and other people if you participate in a religion. Also it could be a good support network. It's easy to believe the same thing everyone around you believes.
But there are many different religions: Christianity, Buddism, Hinduism, Jainism, Wicca, New Age, etc. And many of these believe in a different god or gods. Some are very organized. Some aren't. There are also many people (atheists) who don't believe god exists or (agnostics) who don't think it's possible to really know for sure if god exists.
If someone is trying to make you believe in a god, I would try to understand what they are telling you. Ask them what makes their God worth believing in or why they believe in theirs. If it makes sense to you more than any of the other things out there and it makes your life better then go ahead and believe if you want. But try to make a good decision and don't try to just believe because someone tells you that you have to.

He requires it of us. Sure, most of the people in the world are of the world, taking whatever possessions they can get now and living their luxurious life. They have their reward now.
We are required to be Gods servants, and to become like his son Jesus Christ. He that is a Jew is one inwardly, not outwardly as the world sees a "Jew".
He or she that trusts in, relies on, and adheres to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is the True Christian. How many do you know? There are a very tiny number at this time, but the change is already underway. Below is an excellent website with lots of answers to your questions and more.

When you believe on God you will never want to commit sin, you will keep your EGO under control, you will be peaceful, you will be righteous, you will never think of hurting yourself and others, you will be patient in every situation. One who truly believes God will be afraid of violence.
It is not that everyone who says he has belief on god will have above qualities but one who with whole devotion and complete control over his mind will have above qualities.
One can manifestate God within himself if has complete control over his senses, mind, body, emotions, his actions, thoughts and an intention of Being Good and Doing Good.

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. It doesn't get anymore clearer than that. >>>>> For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). <<<<< This is why we should belive. I don't really need to add anything else, the Bible speaks for it self. She answered your question.

only do if you think it's going to help you be a better/ happier person in life. I don't need to believe in god. I don't need an escape goat for my lifes problems. I just blame myself and move on. But believing in god is benificial for many people. It gives them hope and they are better people because they believe.
No one should tell you that you need to believe

We don't must believe in God. As a Western culture we do. The Eastern cultures don't believe in God, or at least not 'our' God. Some believe in many Gods.
We believe what is in our heart.
