Both heavy's known for a "one ton" straight right hand punch. Marciano known for his absolutle "fanatical" traing regiment, iron jaw & heart second to none, retired UNDEFEATED with 49 victories!!! Called the "BROCKTON BLOCKBUSTER", his only known draw back was that he possessed the shortest arm reach in heavy history.Charles "Sonny" Liston, remembered as the most "feared" heavy, indeed man in the world during his brutal career. Strong points were his amazing power in any punch he threw including his left jab. Listons savage/brutal aggresiveness led to more first round ko's vs. percentages of fights than any other heavyweight champion in history. Liston had problems finding sparring partners/victims as so many were seriously injured when engaged with Sonny. More heavys "ducked" him in his rise than all other heavy champs combined. His arm reach was the longest for a heavy champ up thru his time. Sonny's only known draw back, speed! Who would win in their prime?

MARCIANO - W 49 (KO's 43) TF 49 - W pct 100% - KO pct 88% - wins over Louis, Walcott[2], Moore and Charles{2} - KO'ed by none - #14 ranked puhcher - #12 ranked fighter
Retired undefeated as champion and as a fighter.
I admire him for staying retired, a very smart decision
It has been said that Marciano was somewhat overrated because he fought over-the-hill great fighters.

LISTON - W 50 (KO's 39) TF 54 - W pct 93% - KO pct 72% - wins over Patterson[2], Z. Foley and "Big Cat" Williams{2} - KO'ed by Ali[2] and L. Martin (average fighter) - #15 ranked puncher - #71 ranked fighter

This is a great slug fest. In this contest both fighters hit the canvas. This is the question, does Rocco get cut shreds and the bout gets stopped or does the bully Liston quit on his stool like he did against Ali. Answer this question and you will be able to ascertain who wins.

Marciano would win. Even though he had a short reach he would get in close. He fought with his chin tucked in tightly against his chest and looked up at his opponents. His short shot, left or right was so good that one shot was enough. Liston lost to Cassius Clay because of Clay's speed. Joe walcott had great speed and style but Marciano took him out even though Rocky looked like he lost the fight.

Liston was ducked more than anyother heavy champ combined? Are you f*cking serious? Especially when you say COMBINED!!! Remember Lennox Lewis and how champions (Tyson Bowe) would rather hand the title over than get in a fight? Holyfield wouldn't touch him until he HAD to either. What about Chris Byrd? Are you telling me he wasn't ducked ALOT due to his style? Jack Johnson wasn't ducked traveling the world chasing the title? Razor Rudduck wasn't ducked by fighters many times (see wikipedia.org). Larry Holmes wasn't ducked the whole way up? What about the Klitschkos? Lewis retired before he'd rematch Klitschko. Now, you combine ALL of those, plus the many other champs I am leaving out I am leaving out,.. you can stick to that comment? By the way, Liston would have killed Marciano.

In his prime Liston would have beaten Rocky. Foreman was one of his sparring partners and said that getting hit by Liston was like getting kicked in the head by a mule.

liston had a strong jaw, please ignore the second ali fight so i think he stands up to rocky`s blows now marciano was dropped by walcott and archie moore and his face was carves up by ezzard charles these 3 were well past their best when they hacked up rocky so the question really is two-fold ,how many times does marciano get knocked down and how many stitches does it take to close his face, my guess 22 stitches 4 knockdownd liston by 5th rd stoppage in a massacre.
