No I don't give them money, I direct them to places that can help them.

It used to be the charitable and noble thing to do. Some people do just "get down on their luck", and have disabling conditions. But IMHO, most "bums" today are drug users, and can make $4-600/day hustling people for cash.
I have seen what drugs can do to peoples lives and families. So I do not enable them one bit. There re many charitable organizations which can take care of the needs of most "out of luck" people, and that can help them get work and places to stay.
So no. I don't enable. Do I believe in charity? Yes

I take them to the nearest resteraunt and buy them a sandwich. They'll almost always appreciate it if you do that. Just as much, if not more than if you give them fifty cents. The last time my husband and I ran across a "bum", we went to the nearest pizza place, got a $25.00 gift card and gave it to him. I've never seen someone so happy. He was able to get good food for a couple days on that I bet.

I will periodically buy them food but never money. Why, because I have personally known too many drug addicts and although I don't KNOW they will spend money on drugs, I FEEL they will and so as not to be a contributer to the disease, I just try to make sure they at least eat something if I am able to. Everyone so far has seemed thankful

sometimes,hey you never know thier actual situaion and really who's gonna hire them when they walk in no mode of transportation they smell,no home nothing,sad,i go get them a burger and coke sometimes or bus tokens,really if they spend the money on booze it's thier evil and you've done the right thing,we should all help pther people,who's knows if us or one of our loved one's will need it one day

i saw one this weekend well actually a few in philly and i made them tell me some jokes before i gave them my change...you cant by much drugs with a few quarters
