Was there natural waviness in you're hair at one point?
Just getting rid of the styling build-up can really do alot, if it was. Cause' you probably still have that.
It's really hard to ditch the conditioner this time of year, with all the static electricity. If you can find a more natural method of conditioning, though, that can really help.
Cause' ya see, you're hair has got to stay really light in order to wave. And mineral oil really weighs hair down, which is what you've got in all the commercial conditioners.
Try adding a couple of tablespoons of baking soda to you're shampoo! That will remove product build-up fast, without harming color.
White vinegar in the rinse water is another way to really add bounce! For hair that is not colored treated.
Did you know that you can add an egg to you're hair? I think just beat it up, and add it in layers, let dry for 10 minutes, before washing out completely.
You can experiment warming different oils in the microwave, allowing them to cool, and using them for a hot oil treatment. Then of course, wash out.

Wash your hair, and I KNOW it sounds silly and stupid, but it REALLY works. Clean out one of your heat registers and turn the heat up one notch. Put your wet head upside down on the heat register and scrunch it, keeping it there til it dries. It stays wavy and kinky for a while, but let's be honest hon, it will NOT stay that way all day unless you use mousse.

You could get a slight perm and it will stay wavy for a while. Though I'm not sure if you're looking for a solution that lasts this long.
Or get it damp and wrap it around really large curlers and let it dry. If they're hot or you blow it dry then it might turn into more of curls, tho.

I braid my hair when it is damp, and leave it overnight. That leaves it wavy for the whole next day.

Large curlers grabbing a lot of hair loosely, and not leaving them in as long as you would if you were curling your hair.
