Really it all depends on what your plans are for the car. If you want to do a pan off, numbers correct restore then honestly no. Why? It's cheap and much less of a headache to spend the extra cash up front to buy the nicest, most original, solid, etc car you can get your hands and use that as the base of a restore. Now, if your just looking for a cheap classic vw then it sounds like a fair price. I would recommend trying to get a good idea of now much rust it has though, since the KG is a uni body and a little rust in the wrong spots can mean a lot of trouble (even worse if you don't know how to do body work). Another site you should check out is the classified section of http://www.thesamba.com/ Compare the car your looking at to others of the same year. It'll give you an simple way to compare prices or give you a chance to a find a car to better suit your wants and needs.
As far as parts, paint, etc it all adds up and even more if you want quality. I'm personally not a big fan of mid-american since you can get the same parts they sell from other shops for less, as well they honestly just don't sell as high as quality parts as there glossy catalogs (which you will get about 20 copies of it a year from them once you get on there mailing list) like to let on to. So, my advice, read up about different shops on the thesamba.Com before you start ordering.
Anyways, if you have pictures drop me and email and I'll let you know what I think about the car. Patrickm2213@yahoo.com

Many if not most vehicles from 69 are becoming scarce except for the high buck resto jobs that have already been completed. A kg is quite a rare find restored or otherwise. I'd say go for it and enjoy the resto work, etc. Oh, by the way, if you don't want it, I do. Good luck and have fun with it!

Karmann Ghias are getting harder and harder to find. I think 1000 dollars is a fair price when you consider if you were to budget yourself properly, and perhaps invest another 1000 dollars.I bet you could easily double your money, if you were to sell it.

As long as it does not have any rust, sounds like you have a good deal on your hands.
Still, I would try to talk them down to like 800.00, that way you can spend the extra cash on a tune up, and some seat covers!!

If you really want one, I guess it is ok. Depends on how much it will cost to put in the shape you want it.
