In Illinois, filing chapter 13 which includes your parking tickets, you can get your license back.

Wow. Add no idea people would be so judgemental. I cosigned a car for my now exhusband who racked up the tickets. My question was, HOW SOON AFTER I FILE.

bullsh*t. Your tickets have nothing to do with filing bankruptcy. You are still responsible for the tickets.

I am sorry to tell you that your license restrictions will NOT be affected by your bankruptcy. They are 2 totally different things. You may not even be able to file a discharge of debt against the State where you live. Have you talked to a Bankruptcy attorney? Certain debt cannot be exempted by bankruptcy, such as Child support and Tax liens. I am not CERTAIN about the $7,000 not being discharged, but I have filed bankruptcy 2 time in 25 years, and I had an attorney. She told me NO State or Federal assesments were excused. But I DO know that just because the fines are gone doesn't mean you'll get your driving privileges back. A judge no doubt snatched it away and that means a judge will be the one to re-instate it. Good Luck, though.

I'd like to know how you ended up with $7K in parking tickets? And the rules for filing bankruptcy are much more difficult than they were just 1 year ago. You might not even be eligible now without taking some classes and trying to 'right' yourself before you can officially file.

I'd get with a bankruptcy lawyer as soon as possible if I were you. In the meantime, get used to public transportation.

If I were a judge and you showed up in my courtroom with $7K in parking tickets, you'd never drive again. Where I live, I'd have to get a parking ticket every working day for nearly 8 months to even come close to $7K!!! Every day for 8 months!!! 8 months!!!

At any rate, good luck on paying your fines and getting around without a license.

I did not know that you could file bankruptcy on parking tickets. I thought that you had to pay them or they would put you in jail.
