Just go and play your music as best you can. We Catholics may be a little traditional, but we aren't scary.
The thing about Christmas is that it brings many people into the church who typically do not come the rest of the year. So, there will be others there who won't know exactly what they are doing either...just follow the crowd, and you will be fine.

Well, why not ask YOUR Presbyterian Minister?
IMO, if you know your Christian Faith, your Presbyterian teachings, etc. then you should be okay playing your violin at Midnight Mass. It might be interesting to see.
Just understand the differences between Mass and Communion. And don't expect nor try to receive the wafer, the "host",at Mass ... remember, you will be there just to play your violin.
Of course, if you are under 18 years of ago, also get your parents' opinion and permission, or don't go.
And if you go, have a couple of friends to with you ... even if they are not playing.

The canon laws regulating liturgical music basically says it has to be respectful. You don't have to worry about anything, just follow the lead of the chior director, or take cues from someone there who knows what they are doing. The only thing you cannot do is participate in Holy Communion, not because we are being nasty, but communion also means unity of belief, which would be a sham if you were to disregard our rules about it.
What you CAN do at communion time is to go up, and cross your arms over your chest, and the priest will give you a simple prayer/blessing.
I love the violin, you can come to my church anytime.

Go here to see what will be happening:
http://www.americancatholic.org/Newsletters/CU/ac0889.asp
Watch the altar very closely, and you just might be able to see the Holy Spirit descend like a dove on the bread and the wine, as the priest recites the words of consecration.
Communion is reserved only to properly prepared Catholics.
Merry Christmas!

Go and have a great experience and play for God.
It will seem a lot holier then what you might be used to but just let that sink in it is His presence you feel. They'll be some standing, kneeling Just try to follow along and enjoy The Lords Presence

Are you gonna attend Mass? If so just go with the flow. When people get on the knees follow suit. Last time I went, I hadn't been in years and just followed suit. No problemo.
See my linky ;)

Just play your instrument in praise to the glory of Christ. You can do this anywhere. The important thing is not where you are but how you use your gift.
Just don't let them try to convert you!

Not really, just follow what every one else is doing. Also, the Lord's supper (Communion) is NOT open to all Christians.....Catholics only.
