Unfortunately, no we can't. We have misused our world so much taht we have a new phenonemon on our hands. It's called "global dimming" - this is how it works:

As global warming creates a greenhouse through byt he smog that is slowly surrounding our home planet, the sun's rays are having a harder and harder time getting through. The temperatures are dropping 100ths of degrees each day. the oceans are changing temperatures 1000ths and 100ths of degrees each day.

So this sounds good, right? The earth is cooling? WRONG.

Global dimming and global warming are two problems we are created, and they balance one another perfectly. Disrupting that balance would ultimately set us in for disaster. here's why:

As global warming increases, the smog increases. The smog causes global dimming. So as the air gets hotter, the absence of sunrays causes it to cool, thus balancing it. If we were to eliminate the global dimming, we would bake. And if we emiliminate global warming, the smog would rise faster and become not a greenhouse but a roof, causing minimal sunlight to enter into the atmosphere. We're talking complete ecological disaster.

We've messed up. There's not turning back. Only looking forward and learning how to live with the mistakes we've made.

History shows that global warming is not a new phenomenon and eventually the Earth will cool again. What's different this time is the rapid pace at which climate change is occuring. This is most likely the result of the last 200 years of industrialisation and the spin off effects of increased population, excessive chemical creation & use, increased use of fossil fuels & pollution.

The real question is how high will the global temperature go, what effects on all life will it have and how long will it last before the gradual descent towards another ice age?

This is perhaps the area in which humans can have an affect by adopting sustainable lifestyle choices. If the critical mass of people across the planet live by the ethics of Permaculture which is; care for Earth, care for people, share surplus & accept limits to consumption & population; the effects of global warming will be minimised. It comes back to each of our individual choices & actions.

Global warming reverses itself. When the ice caps melt the cool water will cool equatorial waters, bringing a decrease in temperature for them. By the time the cold sets in the prevailing winds will have spread the cold across the earth, therefore preventing any type of steep rise in temperature.

Sure. The question is, do we want to? The world economy depends on lots of cheap energy and the only way we presently know to generate the required amount of energy is with coal, oil and natural gas. People who say we could just switch to alternate energy sources, or just use less energy, at little or no economic cost are dreaming. People who say we will all die as a result of global warming are just alarmists. The worst effects of global warming will be economic. There will NOT be widespread loss of life. Hurricane Katrina did not cause widespread loss of life, but it did cause some loss of life and lots of economic damage. But Hurricanes have been doing that for thousands of years. Rising sea levels could cause massive flooding and economic loss, but not death and destruction since the sea will rise slowly enough to give people time to move inland. So how bad will global warming get and how much economic damage will result? We don't know. How much will it cost to find new energy sources or to find ways to keep the economy going with less energy? We don't know that either. There are no simple answers, but there are answers and we will probably find them eventually.

Over centuries yes but right now NO. What we can do is reduce and slow down the effects of global warming.

No....some things cannot be undone and global warming is one of them...we can slow down the effects of it but can't reverse it..

Reversing it may be very difficult, but slowing it down is definitely doable. I believe one technology that is ripe for widespread adoption that could really help here is solar generated electricity. Solar panels have been around for quite awhile, but they have been so expensive that most people can't afford them. But I have found a company that will be renting solar panels so there will be no investment required by the homeowner. I can give you more info on this if you email me: bullshoalsblues@yahoo.com

I don't think so. Not until we fiqure out how to stop the Martian polar ice caps from recedinig. The earth's climate changes with time, think about the time when gulf coast was in Arkansas I think it was a lot warmer then, or when glaciers covered Mn. I think it was colder then.

Both happened before there were SUV's.

we cant reverse it but we can slow it down a lot

At best we may be able to stall it a little bit.
