In what part of the country do you live in? A neuter on a cat shouldn't cost upwards of $80.00 even with shots. To pay that much is ridiculous. The cost to spay females is a lot more expensive due to the fact that the doc has to go in and tie up the uterus, it's a very bloody and complex process. In a neuter however, the animal's testicles are just removed, the procedure takes only a few minutes.

You can have a horse gelded for around 800 with which requires a large amount of anesthesia, so to pay that much for a cat is ridiculous! I would find another vet. They all go to school for the same time and they and all follow the same standards, especially in something so routine as a neuter. Feline vaccines are usually not that expensive either, you can get a three way vaccine for rabies, distemper, and leukemia that will take care of everything. Best Wishes!!

Way high. Cats cat be neutered using just a small amount of injectable anesthesia. It takes the veterinarian all of 5 minutes to complete the procedure. Cats are usually awake enough to go home that afternoon. A cat neuter should cost well under $100 (a cat spay for females costs slightly more because it involves actual surgery). I suspect the price you were given includes the cost of vaccinations or perhaps a diamond studded collar, because that is way too high.

Hi there...private veterinary clinics charge anywhere between $50 - $400 depending on where they are located. Humane Society/animal shelters all over the world will perform the same procedures for $25-50 or for free for qualified low income families. If you haven't neutered already you could ring 1-800-SPAY-USA to locate your nearest shelter to arrange for low cost neuter. The procedure costs less because the shelters don't have the need for all the other medical equipment and overhead like a private clinic for other medical procedures which is part of the reason why it is so affordable.

Hi there...
There is a great website that offers low cost spay/neuter certificates that you can take to a participating vet to save money. The website is http://www.friendsofanimals.org/ This website has a list of vets that participate in this low cost spay/neuter program once you type in your zip code. Be sure to call the vet's office before you pay for the certificate to ensure they still are part of the program. Thanks for being a responsible pet owner and helping to prevent the birth of unwanted kittens :) Hope this helps.

wayyyy too high. The stray kitten who adopted us was neutered for $30.00. You need to call around becuase costs vary from vet to vet. Mind you, the cheaper ones treat their animal patients like they were on a conveyor belt - "Next, please" I was not too happy with the cheap vet, but I was strapped for money at the time. At least, they got the job done, and my kitty is none the worse for the rather haphazard handling. My cats go to a different vet now.

Oh my heavens yes!!

I have never seen it that high. Shop around. Our clinic charges $50.00 and I have never seen it more than $70.

The reason? It is such an easy and quick procedure. 5 minutes tops if all you want is a neuter.

Call 1-800-SpayUSA for a low-cost clinic near you. That price is way over the top for such a simple, ten-minute procedure.
