dreali23.. You are awesome!
"well, in my own experience, i have never met one atheist who wasnt serious about God. Thats one reason i have a soft spot for them. To the question, though, atheism is a recent idea...people back then didnt question whether or not there was a God..they were witnessing the transcendent for themselves. Today, people think because they cant see god, god does not exist. Islamic scholar Hamza Yusuf Hanson puts that idea this way:
if there was a boy who, from the time he was born, never left his house, and never saw a window, the boy would only believe the things he saw (the inside of the house and walls). If a person comes in from the outside and tells him that there is something beyond the walls (outside), the boy will still not believe there is something out there until he sees it...
i guess what im trying to say is that perception is deception, and we must acknowledge that we cannot base our knowledge off of experience alone. Revelation is valid!

While I am not of the Islamic or Muslim faith, you poetically answered Brilliantly.. To those atheists that are always asking for proof that God exists… Answer dreali23’s point of never seeing a million dollars but that he/she knows it exists?? And don’t use a picture of the mint printing money as proof…or the bill itself… because it is no more authentic then what you claim of the writers of the bible. Since you never want us Christians to use the bible as proof...

Hallelujah! That was beautiful. It seems all the atheists I run across in the Religion section of answers are just looking for an argument. If they don't believe in my God, why bother even posting questions/answers under Religion? They seem to be looking for that one thing that will 'convince' them that He exists and is alive and working in our lives. All we can do is show them the Word, we can not give them faith....
But, they know something is missing in their lives or else they would not be poking around in 'Religion'...something they don't believe in. Looking to the folks in Yahoo! Answers is not going to provide them with what they feel they need. Only God can do that!

the first paragraph is sort of almost pleasantly condescending. I really don't care whether this person has a soft spot in their heart or in their head, I doubt if it is really for me either.
To the rest of their answer though. Atheism is not a new Idea. Roman Emperors from B.C. complain about atheists, there are ancient Egyptian notes about atheists. The early part of the bible tells of how to deal with atheists. This means that people were questioning the idea of God and were not "witnessing the transcendant for themselves." So this answerer is wrong about that.
The Hamza Hanson thing is invalid. A smart kid would be wondering about where stuff appears from and where this person Hamza introduces came from. He would be wondering how Milk got in the Fridge. He might not have any clue about what A cow is but he would be figuring out what milk might be and how it might have been made. If a person comes in from the outside then that kid would be checking it out. So far noboddy has arrived from "outside". and we are left with science trying to figure out where the milk actually comes from. The analogy is poor. The testing is real.
Perceptions can very well decieve, and it is often easy for deceptions to escape perception, as decievers well know. Religion is a major deception.
Hammy Joe Hanson is pulling the wool over his own eyes.

Thanks for reposting dreali23s answer. It was very good and I would have missed it if you hadn't reposted.
I will take issue with the idea that atheism is "new." Check out some of Socrates ideas about god and Thomas Paine (helped with the Revolutionary War.) There are literally hundreds of well known Atheists that go back a good bit of time. I will give you that it wasn't widely-accepted until recently (if it's "accepted" now, that is).
And the problem with "revelation is valid" is that once you open the door to "supernatural revelation of reality" then you open the doors to ALL revelation. All has equal legitimacy - Thor and God and Muhammad and Sparky the Wonder Squirrel.

I have seen a dollar, and I know a millionaire!
And just because there are things that we do not know about, does not mean that god is one of them.
And everything the outsider tells the boy in dreali23s answer, does not necessarily exist just because the boy has never been outside.
I Truly want to believe in God...I do! But how can I turn a blind eye to false proof. My logic is sound. I cannot personally say the same for yours.

No. I in many situations placed a smiley after something I intend as humor, for the earnings of the humor-impaired who take each and every thing heavily. yet even then, i think of a few human beings in simple terms nonetheless are not getting it. They see a smiley and that they understand, indirectly, that it relatively is going to be humorous, yet they at the instant are not fairly specific how...

I thank you are full of yourself there has always been Atheist since man climbed down out of the trees rubbed two sticks together said let there be light and created fire. That's how religion got started by unscrupulous Shaman claiming fire was magic and if they didn't do what God told them through the Shaman they would be punished. There were Atheist who thought your phony religion was silly then and they still are. God Bless. xx

Atheism is not new. It is the normal state of being - religion comes on top of that.
Yes, I've never seen a billion dollars. But I've seen one dollar. I've also never seen a god - or any piece of evidence for a god. After seeing one dollar, I can imagine a billion. But still no evidence for god.
