I have had one male dove, and got a female companion for him today because he sings for a mate a lot. They are both ringnecks, and the female is very sweet but the male is following her trying to peck at her. He has never been like this before and they have plenty of room, food, and perching areas.
Any help would be much appreciated. She needed a good home, and both were purchased without a mate. I really dont want to return her unless she is in danger.

Most male birds are a bit territorial. Don't mistake the cooing as his calling for a mate as it's more likely him telling other birds "Hey, this is my space and you should think twice before coming into my territory."

So if the male has already established his space, just introducing the female into it is like putting a stranger into your bedroom. It can be rather unnerving. I would suggest either one of two things...introduce them slowly...place them in two cages next to each other. The other option is this. If the cage that you want to keep them in eventually is the one that the male is now in, I would take the male out...keep him in a smaller cage for now. Put the female in it for a week or so and then return the male...he should have gotten over his selfishness by then and maybe...just maybe, he'll be cooing to her instead of the whole neighbourhood.

Good luck.

He could be courting her I've seen Morning doves in the wild that have the same behavior. He may also be telling her this is his cage. I would keep an eye on it and if he persist in being peckish remove her before he associates her with threat to his territory. After a little seperation, put them in a new cage together one he has no claim to as his own. I had to do this with my love birds I made a huge mistake of putting them together too early and in the males cage. After I seperated them again and put them in a new cage it worked out a lot better. Good luck and hopefully he is just saying "Come over here woman I wanna get close to you ;) if you know what I mean!! :)"
