Go away, you smell like a goat? laughing still! i have been on a spiritual journey for a couple of years now.I am Christian but I am not stupid enough to tell you my religion is right, any one who claims that sounds foolish to me.There is not one human that can tell you which religions are right. This is what I have found.I have studied several different religions. We all know that God is God and most of us know that Jesus is His son our Savior. It is ail the rules in between that confuse us.There are several similarities in the different religions like moses, the prophets, Ten Commandments ect.........Just hang on to your faith, Trust in God and Jesus and they will lead your way.Merry Christmas

Words have many meanings. Translations of languages also have many simmilar or close meaning words. So the Bible, unfortunatly, gets Interpreted into many different forms. They are all similar and the stories are the same, but the meanings and morals can end up being slightly different. All the people of the Bible lived, they are real, some of them wrote their testimonies, These became the books, psalms, parables, and gospels of the Bible. Modern Archeology is making true connections to the past and linking the artifacts and sites found to the Biblical text.
All the stories in the 4 versions of the Bible I've read, do still carry the same message of God. The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Regardless of the religion or the version of the Bible, they all generally say; pretty much word for word, Follow the ways of God, Believe in Jesus, Be as loving, helpful, and forgiving, as a sinner can be, Repent when you can't and do your best to not sin again, and not perish but have everlasting life.
God Loves you, no matter what kind of christian you are. If anyone tells you different, I'd say they don't know God very well, You do have the choice of freedom of religion, and remember those smelly goats, have that freedom too, and God does love them too, They just choose not to let him.
God Bless You.

Hi there! Here's the deal: There may be many different kinds of Bibles. Bottom line is, the most important thing for you to remember is to keep a personal relationship with God. He is the only one that can guide you and point you in the right direction. You're a Christian, and hopefully by choice. I was born a Seventh Day Adventist and I still believe everything I was taught. Not because I have to or it's the only thing I know, but because I have seen God's power and love in MY life, that I have no reason to question His existence. I know it's hard. Especially now a days, that there's a lot of people out there that seem to need "proof" but are so incredibly dumb (I'm sorry, I can't put it any other way) that they don't recognize it when they see it. Yes, some of the stories that are in the Bible are hard to believe, but remember that what is impossible for us is possible for Him. Also keep in mind that a lot of them are parables and they are not literally true. They were made to make a point easier to understand. One more thing, keep in mind that many people have the same Bible, they just interpret them different. My best advise to you would be "but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you." (Mathew 6:33) The Bible is a guide, but ultimately what's gonna save you is the personal relationship that you keep with God.

You pose an interesting conundrum. Most faiths believe their book is the "truth" when in fact the Bible, Greek for Books, was put together from writings from the oral tradition. Think about sitting in a circle with twenty other people. You whisper a short simple story to them and send the message on its way. By the time the story is told by the twentieth person the story has been reshaped. All you really need to be aware of is God's love is real. The stories are there to reinforce what God has done and continues to do to influence our lives. Jesus was the best example. Love one another as I have loved you. The ten commandments are the best laws we have. When we break them we get into trouble. When we adhere in honoring our earthly mothers and fathers we honor God. We all believe is God, even athiests say "thank God I'm an athiest". The truth behind the bible is it is open to interpretation you need to pray and allow the inner voice of God to speak to you.

First of all, you can get "You smell like a goat" t-shirts here: http://www.cafepress.com/wlarry/2175901 Thought that was pretty funny!
Okay the Bible thing. Remember these two things and it should help:
1) There are plenty of things in the Bible for which there will never be any physical evidence. It's really not that big a deal if you prove that a city called Jericho existed. That doesn't effect faith that much. It's a much bigger deal if you can prove that three guys were thrown into a furnace, a fourth person appeared with them and walked around, and then they came out unscathed and not even smelling like smoke. But, uhhhh, you're not going to find physical evidence for that.
2) The things that CAN be proven don't matter. Sounds kinda dumb, but it's true.
As a Christian, proving that Jesus of Nazareth existed is not as important as proving that he was actually God incarnate and that his death paid the price for original sin and allows us the opportunity to have a personal relationship with God and a reserved seat in heaven when we die. Ask yourself: are those things that can been proven through the recovery of physical evidence?
It works both ways. In that case, if someone is able to prove to you that the Red Sea never parted, that Adam and Eve were not the first two people on earth, or that Abraham never attempted to kill his son, your logical rhetort could be "Yes, but that doesn't prove that Jesus was not the Son of God and that doesn't disprove the feeling I have in my heart now."
There are plenty of intellectual Christians. C.S. Lewis was one of them and you can find plenty of his opinions, probably best to start with Mere Christianity. He has a lot of good strategies.

The Bible proves itself true. Specific prophecies in the Bible have come true and others, it appears, soon will.
It speaks of historical and geographical events. These can be verified through archeology. For example, Abrahams victory over Chedolaomer's confederation of mesopotamian kings in Genesis 14 is supported by the mention of the 5 cities of the plain in the Ebla tablets discovered in northern Syria in 1964.
It has been miraculously preserved. We have 643 historical copies of Homer's Iliad. Nobody doubts their accuracy. There are over 24000 extant copies of the Bible, yet its veracity is constantly being questioned. Something to ponder.
To learn more read Josh McDowell's book "Evidence That Demands A Verdict". The first 79 pages are devoted to nothing but the uniqueness, dependability, and truth of the Bible.
Hope that helps

I don't know why you Christians demonize critical thought and doubt.
What's the matter? Afraid of losing a sheep?
...heh, that's funny, because the asker made a goat reference...
Why do you need a "boost in faith"? Do you need verification for your sudden surge of common sense? Think about what you've said.
1. You believe your Bible is true... but there are millions of other people who believe that the Qur'an and the Bhagavad Gita are true as well. Either one of them is correct or they're all wrong. Can you prove that yours is the true one?
2. Take Noah's Ark, for example. Do you really think that a senile old man would be able to build a giant boat... and then be able to house 2 each of the 30K+ species that inhabited the earth (that included sea creatures, insects, predators, and birds), and have them all live comfortably and without confict for 40 days and nights? And how do you explain the complete lack of evidence (global flood, giant freakin' boat remains) for such an event? When they got off the ark, what did they eat? What was God's justification for worldwide genocide?
Nothing wrong with questioning, critical thought, doubt, and common sense, as much as Christians would tell you otherwise.
...oh yeah... baa.

I know where you're coming from.
One example is, how many prophecies were made that have not been fulfilled (obviously excluding Revelations, as that is pretty much the end of the world)? All of the prophecies made about Christ were fulfilled! The chances of that coming true are one in 1+26 zeros (or something like that).
And about the hard to believe things (AKA miracles) according to Lee Strobel: If you believe that God created the universe and everything in it, then as hard as it may seem, you can also believe he can altar anything within it! He is so powerful that he can do those things that seem impossible--the Virgin Birth for instance (since it's that season). I hope this helps : )
God bless, and have a Very Merry Christmas!

to answer your question, we cant use logic to know for sure the bible is true and other beliefs are false, that's why we have faith. no one can give much logic to support parts of the bible, it's why we have faith, i can say in the upmost confidents, that the bible is all truth and anything that controdicts it is a lie. you need to pray to god to restore your faith, i cant help you, but god can, so just keep in prayer, and some meditation on the bible helps, i'd recomend this whether you had disbelief or not , but lack of connection w/ god breeds disbelief.
i love you and so does god
aheists dont smell like goat, unless they're farmers, and god loves them too.

It is very faith building to study how we got our Bible. You will never find an unbiased source because there is no such thing. We all come from a pretense of some kind. I have done some study on christian apologetics and have found it to be very edifying. If you do word seaches and find sites on "Bible authenticity authority" and "christian apologetics" it gives you an enormous list of resources for you to study. Let me just say though that it is safe to ask the touch questions. There are answers to your questions and concerns, but just beware of those who would like to discredit the Bible and be skeptic of the skeptics. Good luck and God bless.
