well I was always told it went Red orange yellow green blue purple, but then when I got older and took an art class in High School, there are a lot more colors to the rainbow! Either way it is still pretty to look at!

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo + Violet You can remember them all by remembering ROY G. BIV that is all of the first letters of the colors of the rainbow in order from the color at the bottom to the color at the top.

Even though a rainbow spans a continuous spectrum of colours, traditionally the full sequence of colours is most commonly cited as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. It is commonly thought that indigo was included due to the different religious connotations of the numbers six and seven at the time of Isaac Newton's work on light, despite its lack of scientific significance and the poor ability of humans to distinguish colours in the blue portion of the visual spectrum.

Human visible would be the spectrum from roughly 700nm (red) to 400nm (violet). The named colors in that spectrum are known as ROYGBIV or Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue Indigo, Violet.

The only color I can make out of the letters that make up rainbow, though, is "BROWN" with "A" and "I" left to fend for themselves.
