I thought that God was "the same yesterday, today and forever", but in the Mormon religion it seems that the Holy Ghost received an "Advance to Godhead" card without all the hassle of a mortal experience.

How can Mormons claim that a requirement for Godhead is a mortal body and experience - including the need for Baptism, Gift of the Holy Ghost, the Priesthood for men, temple endowments and celestial marriage - when a member of the Mormon Godhead did not need to follow these steps?

The Holy Ghost is a personage of Spirit who has the calling of testifying of the truth of the Gospel. He is not a God and will at some point go through the process you outlined. God our Heavenly Father is our only God. Jesus is our Redeemer that is His calling. He is the only begotten, in the flesh, of our Heavenly Father. Together these three members of the God Head are one in purpose and that is the redemption of mankind.

The Mormons do not believe the Holy Ghost is a god, but rather a spirit which testifies of God and his Son. There is no requirement for "Godhead" in the Mormon religion because there is only the one Godhead - the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. You are definitely reading to much into something or missing the mark. Good luck.

I've always considered the Holy Ghost to be part of the Godhead. To me there is one God and that is God the father. I guess I would use the first presidency as an example. The prophet holds all the keys and we call him president. He has two counselors who we call presidents as well. This investiture allows the counselors to act in behalf of the president. The same principal applies to the Savior and the Holy Ghost. The deemed term is called "divine investiture." Throughout the bible, especially the OT we see Jehovah talking in behalf of the Father. They act as one and have the same purpose. By priesthood authority and under divine investiture the Son speaks and acts in behalf of the Father. Now in regards to a physical body. Having a physical body is a central part in the plan. Having a body once again allows us the opportunity to justify our agency before God. It witnesses to Him that we will be either true and faithful in all things. We first learned and progressed as spirits in premortal life. Agency was utilized and some kept their 1st estate while 1/3 of the hosts lost it. While the Savior was mortal he instructed others to be perfect like our Father in Heaven. This topic has been mentioned by another poster. The Savior was perfect, however, his role as Savior could not be completed until after he was resurrected. The scriptures record that He resurrected and that He now "standing on the fright hand of God," (Acts 7:55) If the Lord had need of resurrection to stand at the right hand of God, then how much more do we need it if we are to abide even in His presence? If a body wasn't needed....then we wouldn't even be in this temporal state. It is in this aspect that the other poster mentioned that to the Nephites He encouraged them to be perfect like He is now. (3 Ne. 12: 48) There are two aspects of perfection. The ultimate arrival of perfection and the path that leads to it. If you are on that path.....you are becoming perfect. If the plan didn't require a body, then there would be no need of the resurrection.

Just as Nora and Coool have explained...the Holy Ghost is not a God - he is exactly what he is "named" a "ghost" or personage of spirit. He is not a god..but could be someday, we don't know. He is a MEMBER of the Godhead...
also....why don't you ask your Heavenly Father WHY we have the Holy Ghost and also ask many of your other questions?
I know that you used to be Mormon and that you always have *lovely* answers and questions...I wonder do you ever actually accept what people are saying or just dismiss it because you have decided you hate the religion?

Nora explains it well, we don't consider the Holy ghost a God but a messenger of God, working with god.

As for caveman asking why would we want a body? well, do you like sex? Seriously, do you Like the taste of food? do you like feeling happy and proud? This and much more is because we have a body, now would you like all this later. I sure would! As a spirit we couldn't touch, feel, learn, or much much more. plus id our bodies weren't important are are going to be discarded then why do we have them in the first place. As to how God can hear and answer all prayers. Although the specifics are impossible to understand for us. In the simplest terms, God is all powerful; which very much includes the power over time. just think about it. If you lived forever, would "time mean anything? No, Time is irrelevant to god, and is a perception of man because all we see and comprehend is past, present, and future. in other words a linear time. God is not restricted like this and so he can be with each of us and be everywhere all the time because time has no meaning to him. Hope this helps, thanks.

As you may know, the Bible tells us that there is only 1 God. God says that He does not know His equal. This is the only thing that God does not know. The Holy Ghost is a part of the Godhead from the beginning.
The Mormons have created a godhead that they like and one that is not found in the Bible.

I have wondered the same exact thing among other things I pondered about. One such thing I pondered about, is the fact that God and Jesus Christ have flesh and bones according to the religious sect. I wonder how can God take a break if he is reading all our minds at the same time and answering all our prayers. And about your question I think that they could be spirits fulfilling some kind of mission before born into mortality. Or they could be special spirits that chose to come to earth and have passed on into the spirit world before they had a chance to sin, such as when a child passes do to unfortunate circumstances. Don’t take my word for it, I’m just speculating on the subject. Perhaps after we die, and if we have been worthy, we could participate in gods work as a spirit guide, or even the spirit of God. It does state that we are children of god and have the potential to become like him.

Its also interesting to think how the message gets to god when you pray. Could it be that God is a physical being and truly cannot read every ones thoughts and answer everyone’s prayers at the same time without his spirit doing the work. I know that he is the most powerful being in the universe and has the power to move mountains and know your thoughts, but suppose there is a spirit guide assigned to every one in mortality and it is called the spirit of god, and it is thru the spirit that guides. So therefore, god can claim the spirit as part of the godhead in one purpose with Jesus at his side fulfilling one purpose, which is the purpose of god. For there is only one god.

I can go on and on my speculation about the realm of god and his angels. How can their be one god when it states that we are children of god and can become like him, meaning we can be gods. Seems blasphemous but grand at the same time. How can their be one Jesus when there are other worlds or should I say planets to save. For is states that there is no end to gods creations, and when one earth passeth away one is created. there is only one God and there is only one Jesus in purpose and act. For there is only one supreme purpose. and in the end, we will all find that out. For not only the Mormons will be there during the literal reign of Christ. All followers of light and truth who have never had a full chance to receive all the truth on earth will have a good taste of the sweet in the end.

Ok, we dont think he is a god. So many churches think we believe in a bunch of gods or something. this is NOT TRUE. We believe in One God! We often refer to him as our Heavenly Father, as we believe he is the Father of our spirits. We believe that Jesus Christ is his Only Begotten Son. He died for our sins on the cross, and rose from the dead 3 days later, so that we ALL may be resurected. That we have the opportunity to repent of our sins because he suffered and died for us. Then to finish it off, the Holy Ghost. Also called the Holy Spirit. We believe that he is a sprit whos duty it is to testify of God and Jesus Christ to the hearts of man. His spirit testifies of the truth of the teachings of God.

I would like to say that we do not believe in the trinity. We believe that God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost are separate beings. God and Jesus their own bodies of flesh and bone. If we are supposed to try to be like God, how would that be possible if we have bodies, and he doesnt? how would it be possible for moses to speak to him face to face if he didnt have a body? How would it be possible to be made in his image if he didnt have a body? The Holy Ghost does not have a tangible bogy however. He is a spirit, who testifies to our hearts and souls of the truthfullness of Christ. And because these three are separate, and each have a role to play, we call them as a group, the Godhead. The Holy Ghost will some day go through the same process as we all do. If you want answers from the head of our church, our direct teachings, then go to:

If you want to know about a religeon or culture, then go to the source. Ask someone who believes AND practices that religeon. if I wanted to know about Catholics, i would go to a Priest, or something to ask myquestions. or their official web site. if i wanted to know about Budhists, i would go to a budhist. If i wanted to know about mormons, then I would go to a mormon. When mormons have questions, and they often do, about what they should do about a problem, they go to their bishop. they pray, they read their scriptures. one ore time:

PS - please excuse me for any miss spellings or phrases. i dont claim to know everything, so i think youshould go to the website and click on church materials, and you can find direct quotes from our leaders.

Why would God need to have a physical body? If you had the option to live without a body, would you. Think about it----no worry about food, clothing, shelter, car, just go anywhere and do anything totally unencumbered!
Your question has me pretty baffled, and I thought I understood Mormonism fairly well!
