if we set the age of our earth to a 24 hour clock mode, human life appeared only a fraction of a second before the clock hit the 12 hour mark.
why did god have to wait so many billions of years before making sure that human life appears only yesterday?

Satan's rebellion caused it, way before man dwelled in a flesh body.

There are 3 heaven and earth ages, same heaven and earth but different ages.

II Pet.3:5-7 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
……………………………………….
THE WORLD THAT THEN WAS
Gen.1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

To that earth age the world that then was, belongs all fossils and remains. Scientific estimates or guesses; universe or heavens 20 billion years old, earth 4.6 billion years old, moon 200 to 300 million years younger than earth, dinosaur extinction 65 million years ago, Ice Age 2.5 million years ago.
………………………………………………………………
BEING OVERFLOWED WITH WATER PERISHED
Gen.1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

AND THE EARTH WAS
The word “was” (hayah) in Hebrew, was not distinguished by the Revisers, that is the verb “to be” from “to become”. The same Hebrew word “hayah” is translated “became” in Gen.2:7.
AND THE EARTH BECAME

WITHOUT FORM H8414 tohu (to'-hoo) From an unused root meaning to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), that is, desert; figuratively a worthless thing; adverbially in vain: - confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) nought, vain, vanity, waste, wilderness.

VOID H922 bohu (bo'-hoo) From an unused root (meaning to be empty); a vacuity, that is, (superficially) an undistinguishable ruin: - emptiness, void.
AND THE EARTH BECAME DESOLATE AND EMPTY
Earth was not created that way but became desolate and empty due to Satan’s rebellion. A global overflowing of water, but not Noah’s deluge. Darkness was upon the (face) of the deep, in other words the whole earth.
Into this we can read; dinosaur extinction, destruction of Atlantis, breakup of Gondwana Land, and the Ice Age.
………………………………………………………………………...
BUT THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH WHICH ARE NOW
Gen.1:2 And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen.1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

About 63 A.D. Peter writes, the heavens and the earth which are now. The heaven and earth age we are in now, today.
BY THE SAME WORD ARE KEPT IN STORE
RESERVED UNTO FIRE
AGAINST THE DAY OF JUDGMENT
AND PERDITION OF UNGODLY MEN
PERDITION G684 apoleia (ap-o'-li-a) From a presumed derivative of G622; ruin or loss (physical, spiritual or eternal): - damnable (-nation), destruction, die, perdition, X perish, pernicious ways, waste.
Some will perish eternally and not see the third heaven and earth age.

Well first, there is no scientific proof of an old Earth. Where do you get the Earth is 4 billion years old. How does anyone know that? Where you around when it happened? Do you honestly think scientists are so wise as to know something like that. Even our most advanced dating technology - carbon dating - only goes back 50,000 years. The "Billions of years old" theory is just that - a theory. It has no basis of fact.

As for "why did God have to wait?" How do you know he HAD to? Just because someone appears to have waited before doing something doesn't mean they were forced to for any reason.

I don't think we're in a position to say that humans only became self conscious 80,000 years ago, and quite frankly I doubt it. If you feel it is true, what evidence are you using? As for god creating the earth, I see no evidence of that at all. Planetary accretion takes hundreds of millions of years and arguably is still happening, albeit very slowly. When a star forms from its nebula, the accretion disc surrounding it is unstable and it is inevitable that planets will form. As our Sun is about 5 billion years old, the earth and other planets can't be that much younger. Again if you have evidence to the contrary, what is it?

Silly.

Because God only made the world LOOK Billions of years old as a test of faith!

(Corinthians 14:33 "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.")

It's actually only 6,000ish years old and humanity is seven days younger.

You are asking why God, who existed before he created everything we can observed, put a process that took so long for human life to develop?

Can you do it in less time?

Answer: According to the prophets, God never answered this question.

Imagine all the stuff that went down before! Did intelligence exist before us?

Ice ages happen every 15,000 years. So do the killer asteriod impacts, like the ones that killed the dinosaurs. (Geologists count 8 imacts from the layer of material they leave behind.)

Wonder what kind of critter civilizations came & went before we were even around!

And look at the mess we've made in such a short time!! God knew what he was doing. If He'd given us more time we would have already destroyed everything including ourselves.

God has always lived and will always live, so what we call a day, a month, or billion years is a blink of the eye to him.
