I was bored at a goth/ebm/industrial night club until one of my favorite songs came on and I chose to dance to it. I found a space and was enjoying the song. Then some small guy approached and moved around kind of doing a robot or stiff dance. Then he tried backing into me. I moved thinking it was an accident or drunken behavior. He then tried moving into my thigh again. I moved a second time. He tried to move his butt toward me again. Ok. This *has* to be intentional. So I placed my left hand on his back and shoved him away. I then moved again. He did it one more time. I gave him another (harder) shove. "Get away from me," I yelled. I looked at his face. He had a vacant stare and left the dance floor. I felt I defended my boundaries but having worked in a club I know what women are supposed to do is tell the bouncer and not take matters into their own hands. I didn't do that and now I worry I could possibly be accused of gaybashing. This ever happen to you ?

Why would you think that would be gaybashing. This person "bumped" into you several times. You were just declaring your space. I see nothing wrong. You could have gone to the bouncer, but you handled the situation so there really wasn't a need.

I say, "BRAVO!"

:-)

well if your being accused of gaybashing who gives a damn, they got what they deserved anyway.. I know I wouldnt want anyone of the same sex to try bump an grind on me, they wouldnt stay on their feet long since my fist would say otherwise.. But even still in heterosexual environments what you did was very acceptable, even if the bouncer is supposed to be the chaperone you cant report every little incident, he pissed off so what you did should have no ill effect on etiquette

That's unfortunate... I teach my son not to lay his hands on another person in an aggressive way. They even have children's songs about it... it's a good practice for adults as well.

As club music is too loud to converse without getting close, I would suggest moving away to another part of the floor and raise your hand signalling "stop" and shaking your head "no" if he followed. Then dance and enjoying the music in your own space.
